Question about 1998 GMC Sonoma
Since you appear to be a DIYer, I highly recommend a repair manual, you will want it again anyway. From your library, from your favorite Auto parts store, or try online filepeep.com, or manualslib.com

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

Try this site from Diesel Giant. Good pics and layout. They also have a schematic in pdf. http://www.dieselgiant.com/mercedesvacuumtroubleshooting.htm

That is something you would have a very hard time finding on the internet, but the Chilton shop manual has a vacuum diagram for every engine in your model. You can find that manual or another brand at your local parts shop.
