I believe it is on passenger side of the fire wall, next to the a/c tubes and heater hoses.

Code po171 on 1997 ford explorer 4.0 what do I need to repair on car

hey look at rear of vehicle and if you notice water coming out of the exhaust pipe when cold start . it may have a dodgy head gasket . & that's why its running ruff when cold there will be water in one the piston pots this clears after it has been started & blows it out the pipe very common with vehicle .so how to fix you can get a liquid additive that go's into the radiator that will seal this ...most auto shops sell this & make sure you buy one with copper particles in the mix will cost about $60.00 & if no water out of the pipe you have bad fuel good luck mines all good now after I put the additive in

Starts and runs , after it warms up, then idles ruff

check your air mass sensor. disconnect it and see if it helps. it is located on the hose that connects the filter housing to the airhorn on the engine. if it corrects the problem when you disconnect it, then you need to replace the air mass sensor.

Where is the map sensor located

I don't list a map sensor for that model.
I do list a MASS sensor which measures air flow between the air filter and the throttle body.

Car starts but runs ruff till warm

Change the coolant sensor! It is stuck in advanced mode. Probably a little harder to start. Sensor near themostat housing. Do not tork in tight. 5 ft.lbs or till no leak. Good luck!

2002 ford ranger 4 cyl exhaust backfires after decelerating. Engine runs smooth at times when cool and raining engine runs ruff.

check Oxygen sensor and associated wires. if you have access to a scan tool watch the sensor signal. it should resemble a smooth wave at idle with engine warm, if its anything else you need a new sensor.
