Water pumps usually fail by leaking if you are having a overheat problem check your fan and make sure it comes on( if it is electric)

What parts of the cooling system are not functioning if the water cannot circulate?

Perhaps you have a thermostat that is stuck closed or filled with trash or Did you actually test the thermostat to see if it is working? Even if you replaced it with new? It should open when the water temp is 180F to 160 depending on it's rating. How do you know the radiator is clean? But did you test it to see if you had flow through it?
How do you know the Water pump is working? Sometimes the impeller slips on the shaft, or the drive pulley slips on the drive shaft. Does it leak at the water pump? That may indicate you need to change the water pump anyway.

2002 pontiac aztect overheating has new thermostat and water pump

Try removing the thermostat and reverse flushing the motor, Actually try flushing in both directions, this will tell you if you have a circulation problem but 1 thing you should know is that the water goes in the water pump and out the thermostat, try running it without the thermostat and check your water flow

How do i know if the water pump is not pumping it started yesterday getting cold air should i replace the thermostat or is it the water pump thanks

FIRST OFF TO CHECK THE WATER PUMP YOU WOULD HAVE TO LOOK TO SEE IF THE PUMP IS LEAKING EXTERNALLY IF NOT TAKE THE BELT OFF AND SEE IF THE PULLEY IS LOOSE IF NOT THE THERMOSTAT MIGHT NEED TO BE REPLACED. CHEAP WAY IS TO REPLACE THE THERMOSTAT FIRST.

Car is overheating, im trying to change the water pump and the thermostat. but i cant get the water pump off, and i cant find the thermostat

The thermostat is at the back of the engine, the upper radiator hose is connected to the thermostat housing, there are 3 10mm bolts holding it on. I'd check for maybe a missed bolt on the water pump, I know there is alot of bolts holding it on.

Water not circulaing through radiator, suspect thermostat, bought one don't know where thermostat is located LoL help please

If water is not circulating through the radiator, the problem is more likely the water pump. Look and see if the water pump has any coolant leaking from it's vent or weep hole. If so, then the water pump is bad. As for the thermostat, follow the upper radiator hose to where it hooks on the engine. The thermostat should be located inside the housing that the hose hooks onto. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Cant figure out how to change the thermostat on my 2003 Olds Alero.

  1. (This is for a 2.2L engine) If equipped with an automatic transmission, remove the exhaust manifold.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove the thermostat housing to water pump feed pipe bolts.
  4. Remove the thermostat housing to water pump feed pipe.
  5. Remove the thermostat.
