hi kiwi
im dave

have you tried changing the fuel filter?

it could definitely be a defective injector or low fuel output at the injectors.

it could definitely also be a vacuum leak at the throttle body, intake manifold or any of the vacuum hoses

ignition timing may be off

engine emission control system may have a fault

cylinder compression may be low or uneven

ignition system may be weak or faulty including glow plug(s)

camshaft lobes or valve train components may be worn

SOURCE: oil mixing with Diesel and car emits white smoke.

The copper washers on the bottom of the injectors can give this fault if they are not renewed when the injectors are replaced .

If you have changed these allready and made sure you pulled them down exactly as the manual says in 3 stages then you may have a bad injector - see your Isuzu dealer .

SOURCE: Grand Cherokee Laredo 1996 emits

this vehicle is running well rich from the sound of it so it could any one of a number of things from a choked up air filter to a intake pipe collapsing inside the pipe .then it could be the control for the injectors so again anything from the mass air flow sensor in the air intake pipe to a faulty ECU computer .The only way to be sure to locate the fault is to ask dealer with more specialist diagnostic equipment than just a code reader ,they will be able to read the whole engine management system which you cannot do with a code reader or a scan soft type programme

Occasional heavy smoke on tickover, but not using oil and oil clean.

HI do you now the color of the smoke
if engine emits white smoke its not burning the fuel
it could be water mixing with fuel = head gasket even tho you
dot have water in the oil
if engine emits black smoke - that's excessive fuel to air ration
check air filter & air inlet to see if clogged

if engine emits blue smoke - excessive oil consumption
cloud be valve seals

Sounds like injectors are plugging up. Run a bottle of Diesel fuel system cleaner w/your next tankful. It might take two times but injectors get gummed up easily.

I have a diesel engine that expells white smoke for 5 to 10 miniuts after start up? The exhaust also smells rich with fuel? I bought the truck used and am trying to fix the problems! Please help.

When an engine expels black smoke it means that the piston rings are going and is consuming oil. And when the color of smoke is white the engine is consuming more fuel. Both are harmful. Black to the engine and pocket while white to the pocket. It seems that the injector need careful attention.
Cold engine does expel white smoke initially. When the temperature rises to normal working temperature the smoke stops. This is normal in your case. 5 to 10 minutes to warm up is normal for any diesel engine. But any thing more than that needs attention.

What Is a SUV

Hi,
SUV is the widely used and known acronym, for Sport Utility Vehicle. At first conception, an SUV was a vehicle that combined the towing capacity of a full-size truck with the passenger and storage capacity of a minivan. However, as consumer demands have changed, so has the SUV. Many manufacturers now focus on fuel-efficiency and driving and riding comfort, rather than towing capacity.

The typical features of an SUV include;
1. seating for five to seven,

2. high seating and road positioning, roomy interior,

3.Non-dedicated trunk space,

4. High engine capacity and 4 wheel drive capability.

Though the SUV was originally designed to be an off-road vehicle for sporting purposes, their popularity has spawned several different breeds, including the luxury SUV.
Like cars, the SUV has different classes and sizes. The mid-sized SUV, which typically seats five, is the best-selling variety in the United States. During the SUV’s height of popularity, the Ford Explorer remained the top-selling model. The compact and full-size SUV appeals to many consumers equally, but for different reasons. The luxury SUV has the same features as standard class models, but contains upgraded interiors and trim packages typically associated with luxury model vehicles, such as leather interior.

When next you hear the name "SUV",i believe you now know what they are talking about.

When I start my 2003 Camry, it blows black smoke, it clears pretty fast, but it seems like a problem

If it is puffing out dark/black smoke when you first start the vehicle then it would be associated with carbon build up. It will be caused by either oil in the combustion chamber or a fuel related issue. To tell you which one is the cause I will need more information about the problem, may be any helpful repair/maintenance history. If its related to the fuel it could be a poor spark, bad fuel, timing, bad air filter, ans so on. If its oil, it could be a piston ring, valve seal, or poor oil condition.
