Question about GMC Sierra

1 Answer

I have an 07 gmc Sierra. Recently the afm lifters collapsed. After changing all the lifters and putting the motor back together, I have a dead miss. Further inspection narrowed it down to #4 cylinder over fueling. I've changed plugs, wires, and went as far as changing the injector on that cylinder with another. Still the same problem. Has anyone had this problem or can tell me what I need to do to resolve this problem. I also changed coil packs on all cylinders. This problem is burning the last few brain cells I have. Please help

Could have something to do with a valve not closing ,check compression on that cylinder, remove valve cover and check valve height on all cyl.

Ran a compression check. Cylinder within 5 pounds of others. Numbers on all seemed low to me, but the Guage is very old, and my numbers were consistant

Have a 2009 Yukon 5.3 motor it has a lifter tick at startup sometimes really loud sometimes not is there a service bulletin. It has AFM lifters I think that has something to do with it.

I have cured just a few using a real AC Delco filter and synthetic 5w-30 oil. GM recommends using only 5w-30 oil in your engine because other weights can cause air to get into the lifters during start up and cause lifter noise.

I have a 2003 gmc Sierra half ton 4.8 liter that has a knock that sounds like lifters

There is,If you do the lifter you could be after something else,The noise sounds like a collapsed lifter,A collapse lifter can cause a misfire,The 2003 GMC sierra or I should say the 4.8 engines suffer from a cut O-ring between the oil pump screen and the oil pump causing oil areation, resulting in lifter noise,The noise will be present a cold start and then diminish at warm up.12_3_2012_8_08_44_am.gif

Hi...2008 gmc sierra crew...check engine light came on thought maybe was standard just before hitting 30,000 then noticed low oil pressure ( 20 ) then noticed clacking noise?

Sounds like an oil pressure problem. The clacking sound is most likely the lifters are collapsing due to loss of oil pressure. You may have a failing oil pump.

2000 GMC SIERRA 2500 LIFTER NOISE

Try a cup of tranny fluid, Dextron, or whatever, in the crankcase. Or there are lots of lifter products at your local part store. I would certainly try that first. I assume your oil has been changed recently, and the level is good. You don't have to pull the heads, but you do have to remove the intake, and valve covers.

Sounds like a connecting rod bearing problem. I would have a pro. listen to it.
