Question about 2001 Lincoln Town Car
The security chip is located in the cluster. The people you bought it from should have told you this. The car has to go to the dealership to be programmed.

You might have pulled a wire lose to the ignition switch by bumping it while removing the cluster.check frolock the fuse block to switch ,see if you can get diagram of it.

i had that problem before i turned the key to on and pressed the odomiter button twice and held it down it started to run through the codes and havent had a problem with it since.

Hello Callahan5922....this sounds like a stuck blower motor resistor. I assume the blower won't function in the a/c mode either? If you have a digital multimeter you can check this. I believe it's fuse #2....if the digital indicator goes up or down when you increase or decrease the fan speed thats good. Locate the blower motor resistor....you wil find it located on the fire wall behind the right valve cover hiding behind the heater hose, it's about the size of a cigarette pack. With the engine off, and key in on position, turn the A/C on High, and rap a tap tap tap on the resistor. You might be suprised when the blower motor takes off a runnin,

SOURCE: Speedometer not working
The instruments in my Town & Country stopped working a few days ago, and I was preparing to replace the cluster because, in addition to the instruments not working, the odometer & PRNDL were on solid even after turning off & removing the key.
The symptoms before the fix were:
- Tach, speedometer, fuel gauge & temp gauge didn\'t work. (temp & fuel stayed at the 3/4 mark, which was probably their last reading.)
- Only the 2 highest digits of the odometer & the 3 highest(?) digits of the PRNDL indicated.
- A door ajar light showed up later, even though all doors were securely closed.
- The odometer & PRNDL were on solid even after turning off the ignition & removing the key.
The fix was to remove & reinsert a fuse in the under-hood fuse holder, but I\'m not certain which of the 5 smaller fuses toward the firewall reset the problem. (I had removed them to check for blown fuses.) Removing the battery connection probably also worked.
That successful attempt sure beat the time & work involved with removing & repairing or replacing the instrument cluster.
