My oil warning light came on on my VW Polo yesterday so I filled it up because it was a quarter full. It has come on again today but I have oil in it. Why is this?

It may be that your oil pressure sender switch is faulty.
The sender will look something like what is in the photos. It's easily removed.

The oil pressure switch will look similar to one of those in the attached photos. Look in the area of your oil filter/cylinder head.

Image below is of a 'usual' oil presure bsender.

Check the oil pressure switch as it's next to the oil filter. You describe a car that hasn't had the oil changed often enough as the dirty oil is eating things up The switch the oil filter and the engine. The oil filter can leak too. These cars seldom leak if the oils is changed regularly (4 times a years or at least every 5000 miles.

While sitting in park, my 1999 ford explorer with the 5.0 v8 has good oil pressure on the gauge. After driving for awhile the presure starts to flux really bad. The presure remains good while driving at...

maybe it's ur gauge! you can get it pressure tested at ur local auto shop for pretty cheap i think! Sounds to me like its nothing major as long as you know you got oil pressure! ( check temps while driving) BUT i wouldn't worry to much about it as oil pressure tends to flux as car is driving/ getting warm and oil gets lighter. Worst case scenario is a leak in the timing cover gasket and whoever replaced it should cover it. Do you see an residual oil near it? or on the ground when its wet and you pull out of your parking space? Hope this helps!

Oil leaking from oil presure switch in my car

Is the swich screwed in tight to the mounting hole? If not tighten it up. If it is then you will most likely need to replace the switch. There is not a way to repair the switch.

How to replace valve cover gaskets on 1995 BMW 530I

sounds like a leaky oil presure switch. they will leak oil out of the wires comming out of them sometimes saturating the connector of the switch. If that isnt the problem then your oil pump is weak causing the lite to come on or your leak is so bad your oil level is so low the lite is coming on

Ac compressor would not come on so I jumpered the plug to the low presure switch and it came on so I tryed to add refrigerant to close the switch while the compressor was runing I added the refrigerant and...

the refrigerant that you add may not build up the required pressure to close the switch. sincd you noticed already that the system would not hold the charrge then you have a big leak.

you need to find that leak first, repoair it then charge it.

if you know how to do it then you will save a lot of money but it need a professional to do it plus the extra special tools that you require in order to do that.

you could trace all your outside lines for oil stains in the hoses, compressor, condenser, drier, fittings. if you can not see any sign of leak, then it could be in the evaporator coil which is covered by a plastic housing near the blower compartment.
that you can not see if there is leak so you have to bring it down. if you have a big book for your car, there could be a step by step preocedure on how to bring it down. follow it carefully and observe where the screws and bolts came from in order not to interchange them.

if you notice an oil spot or a rainbow once you immerse the evaporator in wter, then the leak is in the evaporator.

i hope i was able to FIX your problem

Car is smoking and presurising

They were using a lower quality gasket for a while and when the oil pressure builds while the car is running oil was forced out passed the gasket. Your car smokes a bit more in a turn becasue the oil that settles on the crossmember support is hitting the exhaust pipe. Easiest way to tell what is leaking is the smell. If it is'll have a rubber/onion odor where pwer steering fluid will have more of a strong burned rubber smell.
Best thing to do is to have a mechanic check and replace ( if needed) the oil pan gasket. It is possible like someone else mentioned that it could be a valve cover gasket but the oil leak would be obvious.
Power streering leak- Its been a while since I played with a Taurus. I think it has a rack-and Pinion type steering system like the older models. The older models had some issues after about 75,000 miles with the R&P seals, requiring replacement of the rack. Parts arent 150 dollars. Might cost a bit in labour to replace.
