Question about 2006 Chevrolet Impala

How do I bleed air out of a new power steering pump? The mechanic said it'd work its way out,but it's not.

Pump is growling, and steering a little hard, fluid level is up, but it's foamy from cavitation I think. It's a brand new pump.

Remove cap fill fluid to cold line turn wheels to left stop then right stop do this several times until fluid is no longer foamy. Must be done with cap off to allow air to escape system.

You don't need to its self bleeding .
You must have a leak in the system some ware .The white foam is air bubbles in the fluid .
Put more fluid in it the noise will go away for a time look for leaks the fan tends to through the fluid all over the place so look closely and see how long it takes for it to get low again .This will give you some kind of an idea how big of a leak you have got

I am not real familiar with the pump you installed, but, It sounds like you are right on the money. There is air in the system. Does the paper work with the new pump give instructions for bleeding?
If not, and you need help with the bleeding, please repost question, " How do I bleed new Reman power steering pump on 05 Accord?", I will watch for it, and have some research at the ready.

Good luck!

AIR IN THE PUMP CAN CAUSE NOISE AND FRICTION DURING TURNING. AN OPTION IS TO ASK YOUR MECHANIC TO BLEED THE POWER STEERING IN ORDER TO REMOVE THE AIR. THIS WILL DEFINITELY SOLVE THE PROBLEM AS LONG AS THE POWER STEERING PUMP IS FUNCTIONING OPTIMALLY

Theres a growling noise coming from my power steering

The pump is low on fluid . If fluid level is a-ok check for foam and bubbles in the resvoir. If there is foam and bubbles drain and bleed the resvoir according to spec's. If after all this the pump still growles you may have a bad bearing but before you condem the pump, few more checks you can do. Before I go there lets see how you make out with the foaming and bleeding. Good luck

My power steering pump makes a growling noise even when the car is idle. The noise is louder when I turn the steering wheel. The power steering fluid has gotten low a couple of times and gets foamy.

if gets low definitely a leak foam is pump mixing fluid with air roar is pump cavitation check lines or pump for leak keep fluid at recommended level air bound unit can cause steering difficulty and or failure if need have trained mech look into problem
