Tried 3 new batterys,had alternator checked,had a new serpentine belt installed as per recall notice from Mitsubishi for 08 lancer,had certified techs from Mitsubishi dealer installed new belt car started drove 50 miles to job started work 3 pm,left work 10 pm,would not start needs to be jumped started each time I need to go some were.

If you know for sure the battery, alternator, and serpentine are OK. then (A) you might need more power to start than your battery can produce. This is not likely because the jump battery does the job. (B) are not really charging because of a bad connection at ground, battery cable, or fuse. You can test this with a volt meter. You might try checking the battery condition just after running by turning on the headlights and see what they do when you try to start. You can check it again a few hours later. (C) Something in the car is draining power. You can check this by (1) disconnecting the ground cable at the battery, (2) charging the battery, (3) connect a test lamp between the the battery cable and the battery. If the test lamp glows, some device is pulling power with the ignition off. Pull fuses one at a time until the test light goes out. (replace the fuses if the light stays on.) Then find the component on the fuse that is grounded and fix it. Look for simple stuff like a wire with bad insultion at one spot or maybe a bad cigar lighter.

I am trying to hange the serpentine belt on my 09 lancer rallyart and it keeps slipping off


Locate the two belts on the left side (passenger side) of your Mitsubishi Lancer. The outer belt is a serpentine belt, operating four pulleys and the inner belt is your alternator belt.

  • 2 Follow the serpentine (outer) belt to the three pulleys lined up vertically near the front of the engine compartment. Locate the middle pulley, which is the tension pulley for the belt.
  • 3 Loosen the bolt on the middle pulley with a socket wrench by turning counter-clockwise. Do not remove the bolt, just turn it a couple of times. Loosen the tensioner bolt on the side of the of the pulley, facing the front of the vehicle.
  • 4 Remove the serpentine belt and then loosen the bolt on the alternator. With the alternator loose, move it forward so that the alternator belt loosens up and then remove belt from the pulleys.
  • 5 Install the new alternator belt by placing it over both inside pulleys. Tighten the tension on the alternator belt by moving the alternator back and keeping tension on it by holding it back with a long screwdriver. While the alternator belt is tight, use a socket wrench to tighten up the bolt on the alternator.
  • 6 Place the serpentine belt back on the pulleys and then use a socket wrench on the bolt on the front of the tension pulley. Once the serpentine belt is tight, tighten up the bolt in the middle of the tension pulley.
  • 7 Start the Mitsubishi Lancer's engine to test the alternator belt and make sure it is working properly. Once you have verified it is working, turn the engine off.

    When a car battery gets low, the windows won't necessarily move extremely slow - you may still have functionality, but not enough power to start the vehicle. Charge up the battery or replace it if it is more than 4-5 yrs old. As for the screeching sound, its possible a loose alternator belt could cause that - if the belt is too loose the alternator might not be charging the battery properly. Another possibility is the alternator is binding and that can cause the screeching too. Remove the drive belt and try to rotate the alternator by hand - if there is excessive resistance you might be looking at a new alternator too. Most automotive parts stores will test your battery and charging system for free if you ask them.

    Replace alternator belt

    How do I replace a broken alternater belt on a 2003 mitsubishi lancer


    First pop the hood and find the serpentine and alternator belts on the left side of the engine compartment. The serpentine belt runs around four pulleys. The alternator belt uses two pulleys. They share space on the drive shaft so they are right next to each other.
    Of the four pulleys using the serpentine belt, three of them are vertically in line (closer to the front of the car) and the fourth stands alone (closer to the cab). Of the three vertically in line, the middle pulley is the one used to adjust the tension on the belt.
    You must first break loose the bolt in the center of the tension pulley (the bolt is facing the passenger tire) by turning it counter clockwise. Then leave that bolt and go to the bolt connected frame connected to the other side of the tension pulley (this bolt is facing the front of the car). Turn that bolt counter clockwise until the serpentine belt is loose enough to pull off. Replace the belt and tighten in the opposite order. Once the desired tension is reached, crank the car and run it for a few minutes. Finally cut the car off and check the tension, tighten or loosen as neccessary.

    How to loosen alternator tension on a 2003 Lancer


    I have not seen this vehicle but, the center bolt or nut that holds the tensioner to the block is backed off two turns first.
    Then the adustment bolt (most are accesed from under the vehicle) can be adjusted to give enough slack to install the new belt.
    If this is still too tight, remove one of the two or two of the three bolts that mount the Alternator to allow for another 1/8" and install the belt.
    Then remount the Alternator.
    Then readjust the tension bolt.
    Finish with the bolt or nut that mounts the tensionor to the block.

    2003 Lancer ES High pitch squeal and constant squeak


    Shortly after replacing the serpentine belt in my lancer, the same thing happened. It is NOT the timing belt. Belts squeal when they slip. If your timing belt slipped it would cause your car to run funny.

    have somebody check the belt for wear (or do it yourself), replace if necessary. If it doesn't need replacement, just tighten it.

    If you have the 4cyl engine that I have, the tightening is kind of a pain in the ****. Not a great design by mitsubishi. There's a pulley near the front right corner of the engine in front of the alternator. the belt should be running around this pulley GROOVE SIDE OUT. This is the tension pulley.

    To tighten:
    1) Lightly loosen the bolt in the center of the pulley (slightly loosen, DO NOT REMOVE).
    2) Under that pulley there's another bolt. You can see that the bolt goes through a piece of metal
    attached to the back of the pulley. Figure out which way you need to turn the bolt to move the
    pulley toward the front of the car. (i don't remember if it's right hand thread, or left hand) This
    puts extra tension on the belt. You probably don't need much. Over tensioning the belt can
    cause pulley bearing failure. If you haven't done this work before, ask someone for
    help
    . It's better to tighten a little bit, a few times rather than overtighten once.
    3) Don't forget to ReTighten the bolt in the center of the pulley.

    If there's lots of cracks and pieces missing on the ribs or grooves of the belt you should replace it first.
