Question about BMW 320i

My e30 320i wont start after i did a tranny swop to 5speed it has fuel spark and the engine turns,it starts sometimes with a low idle for about 10 seconds then it dies and it does not rev up help please im lossing my kind

Sometimes the computer takes over the car. Have you tried to reset, by disconnecting the negative cable on the battery for a few minutes to reset. That doesn't always work but, worth a try.
Some sensors might also be missing from the changed tranny.

SOURCE: Cold Start Idle Issue

Problem might be the air control valve, it's located at the right side rear of intake manifold and has a hose going to the air intake duct from the air cleaner, as a test you might try pinching off that hose when the idle is a problem.

Check all of your vacume lines. If it isn't a vacume line it is most likely the O2 sensor.

with the engine running lift hood and lisen for a vacum leak and check all your vacum lines. if no vacum leak can be found then replace the idle air control valve.

Have the alternator tested. You are providing a low charge to the battery when you jump it and when taking it above 2K RPM requires more amperage resulting in the engine dying and the rough idle

Got the same make/model/year, but haven't had that problem. Does your temperature gauge run at half or above when this happens? If so, start with a cheap fix - new thermostat.

Another thing to consider is that some of the QR25DE engines equipped in the 02 Sentra SERs has an active recall on the crank position sensor. This fault would cause the check engine light to come on and the car would stall unexpectedly. It should start back up but the frequency of this will only increase without repair.

Also, no need to change plug wires, you have coil pack ignition - there is no distributor. If a coil pack is bad, you will have constant misfire and SES light.

After getting engine warm in my 98 dakota sometimes it quits and cranks and cranks but wont start


How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes? Some dodge vehicles you can get mil codes, not sure about your year? It won't hurt to try, turn key just till dash lites come on, no further, cycle the key on--off, on--off, on. Then the mil on the dash starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes. Your looking for two digit codes.

Also, when the problem is ongoing have a helper crank it, while you visually check for spark at the spark plugs. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check fuel pressure. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check fuel pressure, not only check for correct fuel pressure check that the pressure will hold for a bit, with everything off.
Sometimes with idle issues, I check the idle air system.

Do you smell gasoline fuel ?? When there's too much fuel, it saturates the spark plugs, preventing ignition. Let it sit for an hour to let spark plugs dry, then it starts OK later. Next time, turn starter without giving any throttle or very small throttle as engine turns. Myself, when my 2006 Dodge Plymouth minivan (sitting in storage) needs to start, I squirt (half second) starting fluid into air filter, close the air filter housing to trap flammable gas from starting fluid, then turn the engine without pressing on throttle. When the engine starts is when I give it a little throttle to bring up the RPM to 2,000 until it idles on its own without stalling from cold engine.

if you have'nt replaced those spark plugs and wires lately, you need to.and also, lucas fuel treatment, in my personal opinion,is the very best for unclogging fuel lined and injectors.it being below a 1999 model and your check engine light is on, you can have it coderead for free if you're near anautozone or advance automotive parts store. they will code read it and tell you why that check engine lights coming on.hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com

89 dodge shadow. hard start. normal idle cold, fast idle warm. sometimes it wont start until i hear fuel pump activate.


Hello,
The car may be hard to start because it may need a normal tune-up. If the spark plugs are pretty used, they will slowly stop burning as much fuel because the spark slowly gets lesser and lesser. On a cold day the fuel is harder to ignite with a small amount of spark.
Normal idle when its cold means that your cars idle is probably too high. If you lower the idle, the choke on a cold day will keep the idle a little higher until the motor warms and then it will kick back off. If the idle is too high, it will run very rich, smothering itself with fuel, and causing the idle to stay low. When the car warms, its creating better spark when its warm, and with the idle being too high its running at a fast idle.
The car wont start sometimes can be the cause of a few things. If the ground is bad on the fuel pump, it wont make a good connection sometimes for when you turn the key on, the fuel pump dont pump the fuel to the engine. Another one can be that your accessory switch can be loose going to the fuel pump. I think its your ground though. Good luck! Hope this helps.

Truck will turn over but not start checked fuel pump it puts fuel out when engine is cranked its getting spark out of coil and even tried ether but wont even try to run please help


ok if it wont start on starting fluid you either have no spark or you have internal problems like valve timming or low compression or you can check the distributor and make sure your rotorbutton is turning and not sripped hope this helps

My engine was hard to start the last few days and now it died on me 3 times comin home from work and now wont run at all. "runs great when it will run" i see a tranny fluid leak at the radiator..will a low...


if this is a 4.3 6 cylinder the fuel pressure with the key on should be 58psi.if it is a 4 cylinder then the pressure should be 35psi. also check for a clogged fuel filter.

No spark/wont start


i have a 98 and it has a distributor but it could be a fuel issue more than a spark if you have a fuel pressure gauge and check it.should be above 30 psi to me it sounds like a fuel pump thats bad
