2005 KIA SORENTO just fixed clutch starter switch and it wont start.Turn key and everything works but will not turn over. A switch on the floor under clutch. What is switch,could it be problem.


I don't know but if the original fault caused a fault code it is possible the code must be cleared before it will start.

Switch under the clutch pedal could be a safety device preventing starting unless the pedal is depressed in common with some other cars of Asian manufacture.

Clutched replaced wont start now


Sounds like a switch on the clutch pedal is either bad or not properly installed. My guess is that the clutch has to be depressed to start the car, and the car "thinks" the clutch is not depressed.

It could be. The inhibitor switch is like a park/neutral switch, part of the starting circuit.

I have a 92 sentra lights come on but when i turn key nothing happens. Starter good ,relay good, head lights don't dim when you turn key . Car won't turn over at all


If by lights, you mean the dash lights come on, then ignition switch must be getting power. If dash is not working with key on, check the 30 amp fuse link which powers the ignition switch.
If switch is good and starter is good, the start wire from switch goes to, if automatic, to inhibitor relay (the park/neutral function) and then to starter. There is also an inhibitor switch on the shifter or on the transaxle that turns on the inhibitor relay when key is on and shifter in park or neutral. The inhibitor switch is powered by a 10 amp fuse D.
If you have a manual transmission, the start wire from ignition switch goes to the clutch interlock relay and then to the starter. This relay is turned on by the clutch interlock switch on the clutch pedal.
You can check for power on either relay, the inhibitor relay or the clutch interlock relay, with a test light. Pull the relay out, have the key held in start position. Now both relays would have power showing on two terminals where the relay plugs in. If inhibitor relay only has power on one terminal or no power at all, either ignition switch is not sending power or fuse D is out or the inhibitor switch is not working right. If clutch interlock switch does not have power on two terminals either the ignition switch is not sending power or the clutch interlock switch is bad.
If the relay checks are good, check for power on the small wire to starter with key held in start. If you have power there, the starter solenoid must be out.

Depress clutch turn key dash lights up. No click no nothing


you may have a bad clutch switch which will only allow the car to start with the clutch pedal depressed.it allows power through the switch only with it depressed to start the car so you won`t start the car with it in gear causing an accident.there will be a switch that the clutch pedal pushes against that allows power to flow through it to start the car.there should be power on one side with the key turned on and power on the other side with the clutch depressed.

The Inhibitor relay is more than likely not pulling...If the vehicle is an automatic the selector switch passes battery when in park on a yellow wire to the relay...If a standard the clutch switch passes ground...if manual, relay is called clutch interlock...located under hood...passenger side fender...Automatic...called interlock relay...drivers side fender to the right of air intake...diagram may be to small to read but I'm limited on size...Light Green wire on clutch switch supplies ground when switch is closed pulling relay...Yellow wire off gear selector switch (park) supplies battery to the inhibitor relay...Wish I knew if your vehicle was man. or auto...See if proper batt. or gnd. is present to pull relay...If proper potential is present and the relay does not pull it is defective...Send a comment...

try to move the floor mat out from under the clutch pedal and push clutch all the way down. if it starts then adjust clutch switch. if not then a full diagnosis of starter system is required

The new starter worked only about 5 times... then it stopped working. Now if I turn the key, there is nothing... then I push started the truck and got it running.. once it was running I decided to turn the...


I had the exact same problem, I replaced the starter, it worked a couple more times and then nothing. I completely checked the entire starting/ignition circuit and found a problem in the clutch inhibitor relay circuit. When I jumped the relay the truck started. Tracing the circuit back to the clutch switch I found that the little blue plastic landing on the clutch pedal itself had a hole in it where the clutch switch would fit right into it. Thus when you depressed the clutch the system would not see the switch close, thereby not energizing the clutch inhibitor relay allowing the truck to start. Long story short, my problem and maybe yours was a $1.50 piece of plastic on the clutch pedal landing.
