My 2012 Equinox burns oil. What is the problem and is there a recall?

Oil burn could come from a few places. The easiest would be the PCV valve. Other issues could be blow by at the piston rings, valve seals, or a head gasket.

Blue smoke coming from exhaust

Blue smoke coming out of the exhaust indicates that oil is getting into the piston cylinder and being burned along with the gas. This could be a leaking head gasket, worn piston rings, or the wrong weight engine oil (viscosity too low). A leak down test will be needed to diagnose.

Toyota burning oil

If you are sure it has no leaks, the only other possibilities are worn oil rings or valve stem seals. Generally if the oil rings are worn then the compression rings are as well, so get a compression test. If readings are down on spec, which is about 150 psi., add a tablespoon of engine oil to each cylinder in turn through the plug hole. If readings rise, then it is worn rings at fault. If not, then suspect the valve stem seals.

On these engines though, there are several characteristic oil leaks which may be hard to spot, being the cam cover gasket, crank nose seal, and the distributor o-ring seal.

Vw golf keeps running out of oil but theres no obvious oil leek?

Is it a turbo charge engine? If so, there may be a seal bad inside the turbo allowing oil to go out the tailpipe.

My toyota vienta 3VZ-FE 1996 - oil leak onto exhaust

Hi,

That engine will leak oil from

- cam cover gaskets (rear one drips on the exhaust)
- camshaft end seals
- distributor shaft o-ring (appears on top of transaxle housing)
- oil filter bracket to block o-ring seal (drips on front bank exhaust)
- crankshaft nose oil seal (have done with timing belt change)
- rear main seal (expensive, leave it be)

Nissan altima 2002 burning excesive oil what to

You have to identify where the oil is leaking. Check the spark plugs if it has oil, you may just need to replace the oil seal in the plugs. If you meant actual burning from the exhaust, you may want to check the head gasket and the piston rings if the oil seeps into the combustion chamber.
