Hello,
It could be as simple as a blown fuse or 2, wiring, up/down switch. actuator(s) relay, window motor(s) etc. What is the year make and model of the vehicle? does this happen all the time or does it seem to work at all? Please include any troubleshooting info you have done so far. Sounds like this will be a quick fix once we identify the source of the problem. Please advise, Regards, -Tim

Window rolls down by itself and when I start the car. What could be the problem?

Drivers front or rear?

If its the drivers front window the master window switch is the problem. If its one of the other three windows its going to be a little trickier to figure out if you need to replace the individual switch at the door or the master switch.

If its the drivers side rear you can hit the window lockout button on the master switch. If the window stops rolling than its pretty safe to assume the switch on the drivers rear door is bad. If it still rolls down with the lockout on than its a pretty safe bet the master switch is the likely problem.

I have the exact same problem on a Jeep Grand Cherokee 2004. The rear passenger window rolls down only from the rear passenger window and won't go up or down from the front. It has to be in the wiring because the problem was intermittent initially and a new window motor does the exact same thing. If you figured it out or have the wiring diagram please let me know.

If you have a multimeter you can go to the underside of the master panel in the drivers door and independently check the switches for voltage or with no power to the switch assembly check for continuity. Good place to start. If you get continuity to through the switch then you need to check power to the window actuators in the doors.

Drivers window will go down but not up

It may be that it is not on the track properly or your power window motor is old and tierd and can take the window down but it doesn't have the juice in it any more to bring it back up. replace the motor and it will work. This problem happened to me in my '76 ford ltd and a new motor fixed it.

Passengr drivers side window and drivers window

hi mate,
the reason why its not funtioning is because is that either the motor which powers the windows is faulty, the switch itself is stuffed up or it needs a new wiring

Rear window will not roll down

I had the same problem but it turned out to be the safety switch that is in the drivers side gate latch. To get to it you must roll down the window. I did this by disconnecting the motor and attaching a cordless drill battery to the ternminals at the harness. One way rolls up and switch the connection to roll down. Take off the drivers side latch (three screws on gate edge) and there is a switch inside the latch. My local toyota dealer didnt have the swicth so I just took it out of the loop. This solved my problem, but there is about 4 switches/relays in the gate alone that can give you the same problem.
