Year/mileage/ service condition etc. The electric pump can make a buzzing / whirring noise but you should barely hear it under the car. Its usually in the tank. If its high mileage or you are just unlucky it can be failing. A failing pump won't overfuel. I think you have more than one system fault and you should get trained help. Modern fuel systems can have anything around 50-60 psi in them. Take care.

SOURCE: a whirring sound, maybe power steering pump

HI. You power steering fluid level may be low at this point, a quick inspection of the fluid level, will be in order, if possible. Once you have verified that the fluid level is sufficient, move on to the actual power steering belt and unit. Make sure the belt is tight, and rotating the pulley. If the fluid level is low, be sure to fill to specifications.

Now, If the pulley and belt are rotating without a wobble, and the fluid level is sufficient, this will lead to a failed pump. The pump should be replaced in this case. Make sure you exhaust all inspections points mentioned before replacing the pump.

CHECK LIST

  1. Check the power steering pump hoses for leaks
  2. Check the power steering pump pulley for lose fit or wobble during rotation,
  3. Check the power steering reservoir for proper level(add if needed)
  4. Check the power steering drive belt for the proper tension.

fuel pump located inside petrol tank,
you have to remove the fuel tank, only 4 bolts, and a few pipes.
befor doing so, check fuel pump relay located in the middle of dashboard on the floor(horse shoe type plastic cover)

First, test fuel pressure as injectors will not open if pressure is low.

Car does not receive fuel

Start with the fuel pump. Turn the switch to the on position and listen for a short whirring sound from the back of the car. If you DO hear the sound, the pump is working. If you don`t have a major leak between the tank and under the hood,it could be the injectors. Possibly a wiring fault from either. Good luck.

Fuel does not come from the tank on amazda rustler bakkie 160i 2001 model hence the car cannot start

Either your fuel pump has died, make sure you check all fuses and wiring for shorts, or the screen on the pump is clogged and needs to be cleaned. Most likely the pump needs replaced and the t ank will have to be lowered to acces the pump.

My mx 6 will start and idle but once it is reved over 2 1/2 to 3grand it just dies iv changed the fuel filter thinking it was a block but its still doing it and getting worst any ideas thanks

In a quiet place - such as your garage, turn on the key, but don't start the car. When you first turn it on you should hear a whirring sound from around the fuel tank area. This is your fuel pump. If you don't hear it pressurize your fuel lines then it most probably the fuel pump has gone bad or a fuse is blown. Check your fuses - there usually is one for the fuel pump.

Hi I have a mazda 323 lx 1.3 liter 1999 Car turned

Hi there,

Before you do any further investigation, have your vehicle's On Board Diagnostic codes read first - this will determine if there is an electrical circuit malfunction (i.e. fuel pump etc) and will locate the culprit.

Another simple test procedure as follows (in this order):

To test if the fuel pump is operational, turn the key to "ON" (not start) and listen for a "whirring" sound near the petrol tank (operates for about 1sec). If whirring sound is present, the pump is considered working correctly. So in this instance, next check the operation of the fuel pressure regulator and/or check for a blocked fuel filter.

If however, whirring sound is not present, then have the fuel pump "relay" (this relay activates the fuel pump with every key on) checked first.

Cheers,

Fuel issues

should hear a whirring humming sound from the fuel tank (if that is where the pump is located) just turn on the key and take off the gas cap you should hear it.
Also did you drain the fuel from the tank when you had it down ? after that many years the fuel would be "gummed" up.
