Go back through your work and recheck all connections. If there is no immobiliser or key chip then it has to be something you've done. Or not done. Is the replacement column a true swap? My guess is there is one power wire not connected. Check the small starter wire with tester to see if power goes that far. Check chassis ground cables etc.

Try pulling the fuse for the anti theft system and starting. If the car starts normally, then the problem is with the theft system. The theft system will reset itself after a period of time.

SOURCE: key stuck in ignition but it will turn, and

you most likely have a bad key switch cylinder assembly. you can try to spray wd40 solvent into the switch before you have the switch replaced, but sometimes it's a switch replacement that repairs the problem. have you inspected your ignition key to look for damage to the key itself? try a spare key to make sure it's the key,and not the key switch. you can also try turning the key while turning the steering wheel at the same time to get the key to work.sometimes the switch locks when parked in a bind, such as on a hill,or against a curb and so on. try this 1st before you have the ignition switch replaced. AAA auto club,if you're a member covers part of the replacement costs for a replacement switch also. you may have coverage through a cell phone also.one more thing to try, if you have a tilt steering column, try to reposition the steering wheel to see if you can get the key to turn. remember never force it enough to break your key off into the switch! thank you for choosing fixya.com!

I changed the steering column on my 97 trans am but know won't start all ignition lights turn on but motor won't crank

did you put the original key barrel cover over the new ignition as it is paired to you key only. if not then you will need to pair this part with you key, depending on where you are it will need the car pass etc to do this so would just be better if you can swap the ignition cover over its the part that has the wires on it.

2000 Pontiac sunfire won't start makes no noise when turn key over . headlights and radio work and dome light .. I have replaced steering column and ignition switch

This could be a couple different things causing your No-start condition. first thing I would check (Battery is good) access the starter solenoid, the small single wire connection is the start signal. Test for 12 volts here with DVOM or test light while someone turns the key. If there is 12 volts reading, the starter solenoid is defective. If there isn't 12 volts reading check all the fuses (with test light).
The second item causing the trouble could be the Neutral Safety Switch (Auto Trans) or Clutch Safety Switch (Manuel Trans) These could be open or out of adjustment.
Hope this helps you...

Brothers truck a 1987 ford f150, the horn and cruise were not functioning and key was not smooth turning from lock to start. Replaced the key ignition, also had removed steering wheel and blinker assembly...

You should replace all the wires that are in that steering column. Use OEM wire harnesses. There is a clock spring wire in that column that is bad, The shift indicator is a clip on a piece of string that moves when the column turns with the shifter.

Replaced the fuel pump on 97 dodge mini caravan now motor wont crank like the battery is dead. tried jumping it - nothing. All lights work bright! What did I do wrong?

I would check the starter for voltage first - there is a starter relay that is grounded by the PCM. If the ASD relay is faulty the pcm won't have power. You should have battery power to the starter and power on the solenoid when you turn the key to start.

Starter tests good. ignition switch on steering column replaced. still have starter problems. clicks when key turned, but motor spins only intermittently.

Will we know switch and battery are good, need to check for voltage at the big wire on the starter assembly, should always have voltage, that voltage comes from the battery right to the starter, while some one trys to start it, with test light check at big wire, if you have voltage at big wire, try hitting the starter, could be stuck, if you have voltage but goes away while trying to start, check connection's at starter and battery, also check body ground

Starter motor does not engage

It sounds like an ignition switch and or ignition switch adjustment problem. The switch should be located on top of the steering column about half way down.Be sure to use a good quality switch as aftermarket may not function properly. There are two small screws/nut that hold the switch in place. The mounting holes for the switch are oblong to allow for adjustment.

Do you hear a 'click' when the key is turned to start? Have someone try the key while you listen under the hood. It should be the starter solenoid clicking. You need either a test light or voltmeter to test further. One large terminal on the solenoid has the large wire from the battery positive, and should always show voltage/light at all times. Test the other side of the solenoid (large terminal) that is connected to the terminal on the starter motor. It should show light/voltage when the key is turned. If it doesn't, the solenoid must be replaced. If it does show light/voltage, then the starter motor is defective (probably brushes). If you get no click when turning the key, test the small terminal on the solenoid, you should see a voltage/light change when the key is turned. If you see a change, but no click, the solenoid coil is open or the case of the solenoid is not grounding where it is mounted. Try loosening the mounting and re-tighten. If no help, replace the solenoid. If you see no change at the small terminal, remove the wire from it and using a spare piece of wire, touch the small terminal to, first, the large terminal that the battery is connected to, then to the the mounting bolt for the solenoid. If the solenoid is good, the starter should operate with one of these two tests. In that case, the starter position of key switch is open--replace the ignition switch.

1965 Thunderbird Starting Problem

You will need to check if power is being supplied to starter solenoid when key is in start position. Do this with a 12 V test light at small wire at starter. If no power, problem is in switch either transmission inhibitor on trans or other supply from key switch.
