Question about 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

1 Answer

Took my 2008 silverado to have it detailed, when I got it back all seats and carpeting were soaking wet, when i got it home to park it in the heated building to dry noticed the door locks didn't work and the power mirror switch didn't work along with the speaker on the drivers side not working. Left it in heated building to dry out for days and still not working anyone know what might have happened??? The detailer did remove the seats and carpeting to clean it. The key fob will unlock the doors and putting it in park unlocks but the switch will not unlock it. tried fuses and all were good, not sure what next to try???

I'm sorry to hear about the troubles you are experiencing with your Silverado Jeanette. It sounds like the detailer may have gotten liquid inside the driver's door panel/armrest. Since you say the door locks still work with the fob and all the fuses checked good then I can only assume water intrusion in these switches is the problem. Water could also cause the speaker to short out and become non-functional. This year model truck is notorious for door lock actuator, power mirror, and speaker failure. I've had to replace all on my 2008 Silverado along with the mirror switch. There are several good videos posted on YouTube on how to troubleshoot these problems which may be helpful if you are a DIY kind of person. Otherwise you'll have to take it to a trustworthy mechanic to do the troubleshooting and repairs for you. Hopefully you know someone who is good at this sort of thing because the dealerships will charge you a small fortune to repair them. Have you contacted the detailer to see what he may do to help with the cost? It couldn't hurt!

This would be water from the heating unit beneath the seat. Somehow this has gotten damaged. Consequently engine cooling system water now is leaking onto the floor and into the carpet. You mave have to remove the seat entirely, or it may be possible to access the heater and remove it for repair, without removing the seat.

the heater will not cause this. check under body for any damaged sheet metal. good test is go to carwash, give it a good soaking and see where it is leaking from.

You can hand shampoo it using clean water then hit it with a shop vac or other powerful wet/dry machine. It will eventually dry out. The problem is that moisture and odors will lay under it. You can take the whole carpet out of the car yourself and use a carpet cleaner, letting it fully dry before reinstalling. Generally this will require removing seats, consoles, and interior trim. If you are not experienced at this and don't have the proper tools, it can be a time consuming chore.

Otherwise contact a car/truck stereo installation shop. I find these folks are reasonable to pay for removal and reinstallation of the carpet and may also cheaply clean it for you.

Lastly you may just get a whole new carpet, look on ebay, and stuff that in there.
