If the engine is turning over and it still wont start try shooting a little starting fluid in the air cleaner to see if it will run .. if so your fuel pump is either bad or the fuel filter is getting dirty.. thanks and holler if you need more Jerry

Can you hear the fuel pump running just before you try to start? Turn the key to the Acc. position (just before starting) and listen for the pump. It should run for 1 - 2 seconds.

SOURCE: RE: 1993 Dodge Dakota - truck won't start,

From your description, the solenoid is defective. The key (start) circuit provides power to the small terminal on the solenoid. With the key off, try shorting the small terminal of the solenoid to the large terminal that has the heavy battery cable attached. If no action, short the small terminal to the solenoid mounting bolt. One of these two actions should operate the solenoid. If nothing, the solenoid coil is open--replace the solenoid. Make sure the frame-to-engine ground-strap is intact and connected tightly on both ends.

The location of the fuel pump cut off switch on a 2005 Chevy Cobalt ?

There isn't one.
What testing have you done?
Make sure battery has a full charge. If it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you visually check for spark at the plugs. If spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure and fuel injector pulse. If your missing everything check for rpm signal. Any applicable trouble codes?
When you first turn on the key, no crank, can you hear the fuel pump run for a couple seconds? There is a fuel pump fuse in underhood fuse box.

1996 Toyota Corolla cranks will not start. Has spark, fuel pressure at rail, no injector pulse with noid light when cranking. MIL light very dim. Unable to retrieve fault codes

Check distributor rotation to ensure good timing belt. If good, check crank and cam position sensors. The computer fires the plugs and injectors based on many factors but most importantly the crankshaft and camshaft position.

05 CLK500 sometimes will start & run & sometimes not start but crank. Now just cranks no start. Got crankshaft sensor & cam. Code reader no connection to get codes. Is this a computer issue? Help.

Hi Dawn,
It can be hard to diagnose without more information, but...

The first thing I'd look at on the code reader not connecting would be to make sure the fuses are good. I had that issue with an E500 a couple of weeks back and that was the problem. I believe it was one of the auxiliary fuses that had blown.

The Crankshaft Sensor is a common place to start, although normally that prevents cranking as well, but is a common source of intermittent starting. A common problem if it is cranking but not starting might be a fuel pump issue. Another place I might look would be the plugs and coils to make sure everything was in line there. The last area would be to ensure that all the vacuum hoses are in place to ensure that if it turns over it will stay running. Before I'd jump to a computer issue, I'd make sure the basics are in place, Spark, Fuel and Air.

If your car came with the Prestige Alarm unit, there is a possibility that the alarm box got deprogrammed or burned, and left the anti-theft activated. Use the Valet Switch to deactivate the alarm permanently, and see if the car starts. For some reason unknown to me, it takes a couple of cycles of crank/ take the ignition switch off, crank again for the Valet Switch to work. In my 98 Accord, this micro-switch is installed in the left front kicker panel, but there is no guarantee that it will be in the same place in you accord, since it is a dealer installed option

You need to read the computer codes with a rented scanner and follow the clues. These codes can point to specific parts or sometimes just general areas. When the problems are repaired, the scanner can clear the light. Good luck!

Engine died while driving. 1997 Cheap Cherokee

First off, make sure you have at least 12v in the battery. Items you mentioned will work at lower voltages. There may be a 20A fuse on the fuse block inside the cabin that controls ignition etc. check that as well. As always, make sure battery contact surfaces are clean and tight. Check power at starter trigger wire by checking volts there with a test light or meter with the key turned to start. You may have a bad ignition switch. This may be the cause of initial shut-down. I know what I just wrote isn't in the normal order but something here will give you an idea where to look next.

Checking for blown fuse

hey, mad legend, have u checked for spark and gas yet? If not, that's the 1st thing to do. To check for spark, u can use a spark plug u took out recently when u changed the plugs. Disconnect a plug wire at plug, plug into used plug, place where u can see tip of plug easily, have someone crank engine over, u should see a good spark at plug tip. To check to see if it's getting fuel, attempt to start several times, pull a plug and check it, tip should show signs of fuel. If it's dry, no sign of fuel, u may have a fuel pump issue.
