If you don't change the key cylinder, it should work.
If you change the key cylinder, you would need to cut a new key with a blank that will match the chip in the old key.

Pontiac aztek will not go into the ignition

Have you tried Lock ease or some other Lock Cylinder Lubricant? Even motor Oil usually will work but you will have to wipe off the Key several times. I have a 2002 Aztek and lubricate all the locks annually. I have had your problem only once and Oil did the trick. The only other thing I can think of is the possibility of someone putting a foreign object into the Lock such as a small piece of wire or Paper Clip. It could also have a worn out lock cylinder where the tumbler springs have popped out due to lack of lubrication and wear. Let me know!

I have a 2002 pontiac aztek and my service engine soon light is on. How do I turn it off?

Go to any autozone, oreilly, pep boys, Napa . Tell them your engine light is on and they have a code-puller that can turn it off, they will try to tell you they cant turn check engine light off without you fixing the problem or "buying the part from them, but most of those kids will anyway. If not go to a shop and pay way to much to have it turned off, or buy an inexpensive code puller (40.00 - up). you buy one I can explain how to use it buy email.

Key Stuck in ythe ingnition

There is a hole under the steering column right near the ignition switch, if the key gets stuck, stick a pen or something in the hole, you will feel the little lever move and you can remove the key.
