You'll have to drill it out.

SOURCE: 97 chevy truck , key wont turn to start

Hey Baypainter,

The problem may be the steering wheel lock. The solution is to relieve the pressure on the mechanism. My Blazer does this all the time.

The front wheels are probably turn slightly in one direction or the other. Whichever direction, try turning the steering a bit more in that same direction then try the key. It won't take much to free it.

Best regards,
Mike

SOURCE: 1998 chevy c1500 won't start. In the rain

While spraying cap and wires with wd-40 may get you started in a pinch, they need to be replaced. Might as well do a complete tune while you're at it.

How do I change the ignition cylinder on a 97 Chevy c1500 if can't turn key to on/run.

You need to remove the steering wheel , turn signal control and in the steering column you will find a pin that holds the tumblers in place for the key switch. You can remove the pin and then remove the key tumbler and replace it. Go to You Tube and they have videos on just what you need to do to remove the steering wheel and etc. Hope this helps.

When the key switch is off and the engine is not running, do you have power to the coil ? Could be a problem with the key switch.

Check the ignition switch located under the dash on the steering column. Listen if you here a click from that location when you first turn the key on - if no click then replace the switch.

I had the same exact thing happen to me, I have a 97 blazer and after hours of screwing around with it and several different options... it turned out to simply be the ignition switch.

97 cavalier key won't turn

My daughter was told the same thing when her key wouldn't turn and was getting stuck in her 97 chevy cavalier. The used-car dealer suggested going to a Chevy dealer and getting a master key remade, not a copy of the key. We did for $16 and the new master key did the trick! It's as smooth using the key as in a new car. Try that first before any of the worst-case scenarios...

My 94 chev truck will not turn over

did you replace the solenoid as well? double check battery cable connections and make sure it is metal on metal contact. If that turns out ok, then it may be relay or switch.
