Cud b a module that runs these items...they wear. But inspect or test fuse or wiring. Or hookcar to a code reader. Dont just buy new parts until ur sure what it is. Many electronics need to b recalibratd or sweepd specially out of junkyard
it is worht checking the fuses and also keep working the hazard light switch as they are not used that often they tend to get sticky on the con tacts and that will knock out your indicators as well if they start to work after working afer working the haz switck then change the switch
Look on the back of the fuse board ,for this you have to drop the fuse board as their are two fuses at the back and i know one is for the central locking ,the other ? Now when the hazard switch is disconnected the indicators shouldnt work but the only thing i can think of is the indicator unit is faulty ,do the hazards light the indicator lights up and they dont flash or is nothing happening?
The indicators have a few components in their system, being:
The indicator switch
The Flasher Unit/Relay
The fuse & wiring
The Hazard light switch.
If the hazard switch is broken or disconnected it will stop the indicators from working, so you could check that.
You can check the indicator fuse, which should be labeled on the fuse cover. If it is blown, there is likely a fault that has caused it to blow, more often than not a problem with the trailer hitch or a trailer that has been towed.
The next culprit is the flasher unit. They are usually found in the fuse area, it is a black box, looks much like a relay, but slightly taller. If this is faulty it will cause the indicators to either stay on without flashing, or not work at all. You can check this by disconnecting it, and connecting a test light to the terminals, one at a time while working the indicator stalk (key on) If the light lights up then this confirms the switch is okay, and the flasher is likely faulty.
my daughter has beetle and is having the same problem ( she has beetle 2001 and indicators will work for lttle while then stop or do 2 clicks and stop have checked fuses and they seem to be OK) so was wondering if you fix the problem and if so could you please tell me what it was my email address is email@example.com
This is a common problem on the 96-01cars, both the Passat and the Audi A4. The turn relay has died on you. It's built into the hazard light switch on the dash. This is a $20-30 part available at any Audi or VW dealership. Replace it and you'll be fixed.
