Check the choke on the carb, could be stuck or a rod came off. Break it free and lube it. If you have a heat spring to actuate it, the spring could be bad. If it is vacuum actuated, the diaphragm could be bad, the vacuum lines or the vacuum valve.

What is measurement of a float level on a carter one barel carburetor on a jeep cj5 1977?

1977 now that is a blast from the past.
finding books that old is hard, but are sold in book stores.
but from Carter, and very very old jeep books.
4 engine then
and 2 Carters, i see.
232/258cu-in, with YF carb
here ill paste the words

"To adjust the float drop, hold the air horn in the upright position and measure the distance between the top of the float, at the extreme outer end, and the air horn casting. The measurement should be 11/4 in. (31.75mm) to 1973, 13/8 in. (35mm) 1974-78. Adjust by bending the tab at the rear of the float lever."

Carb will not idol down 383 4 barrel

Throttle body butterflies not closing correctly. Check that throttle shaft moves freely, check that the accelerator cable moves freely, check the throttle return spring tension, check carb base and intake manifold for vacuum leaks.

I would like to know if you have a carter carburator diagram for a 2bbl carb

Www.carter.com ask for exploded views of your carb you'll need the tag number on the carb. Its relatively easy to do as long as your float level is correct or google carter carberators using the tag number

Best replacement carb for 1980 vette , simple is the key word

Best simple replacement carb for your Vette would be to have the stock Quadrajet rebuilt by an ols pro...when built right these carbs of 780 cfm are powerful and reliably consistent...be sure to keep the electric choke...A bolt on replacement that I have used is the Carter Thermoquad...while this carb permits easy adjustments, the secondaries are not as large as the Quadrajet...therfore the kick down response is not as powerful as the Q-jet...Yes, the primaries are larger but the 625 CFM again limits the response on your LT-1 350...Hope this helps.

Need an exploded veiw of an abf carter carb the numbers are3h4 9635 s1

This carb does not seem like a factory carb. One place to get a parts exploded view is to get a rebuild kit, they have one included.

New rebilt carter yfa installed, but idle at 3k all adjustment screws backed out, ? the 2.5 L 4 cylinder came from P O with a jury rigged rochester carb of 77 ford vintage, hard to start so I got the...

The 2.5 L engine is the Pontiac Iron Duke sourced from GM since it was still AMC. They came with Rochester carbs, while Ford used Holley 2 brls on their 4 cyl engines and Chrysler used Carter carbs. You might have the wrong carb and the throttle plates are sticking on the intake manifold. You can try using a carb adapter/spacer. If you drive off road I would suggest buying a TBI throttle body injection system from a junkyard, and pick up a electirc fuel pump. Either new from a speed shop or used from a newer Jeep with a 2.5 L TBI engine, you'll need the computer, harness, relay, sending unit and lines as well. But you can pick up everything at a pick your part yard for cheap (some yards have all you can carry in your hands for $50 days).

Identificacion del carburador

Open the air filter and while the jeep is running place ur hand on the throttle very carefully, then in the other hand spray in STP CARB CLEANER. one spray then throttle up the carb so the engine keeps running.

Spray Again the carb and pull the throttle to high and back down after each spray.

4 times is enough.

1967 barracuda carb backfires do I adjust screws in or out?

I would check the float level first if you are going to adjust the carb., carters like to flood and if you check your spark plugs you can tell if your running rich. The other adjustment you will make with a simple vacuum gauge. You should probally check distributor points, and timing as well. More info would help, like is it back firing up the carb or out the exhaust or when accelerrating or decelerating.

Jeep cj won't idle

Assuming that the jeep has not been modified it is likely the Carter BBD Carburetor on that engine, or the sensor inputs to the carburetor.

The Carter BBD has an idling circuit that is always seeking. There is a stepper motor that keeps changing the rpm, and fuel mixture. It basically never stabilizes, and it keeps adjusting based on the feedback loop from half a dozen or so sensors.

So, if a sensor goes bad and feeds a constant signal to the carb, you get problems.

The Carter BBD is a very difficult carb to rebuild and is usually fairly dear in terms of cost.

If you can find a Jeep factory repair manual (on ebay) on the 85 cj -- it is an olive green manual about 3 inches thick and is usually not too expensive, it has troubleshooting procedures for the BBD. Don't get a Haines or aftermarket manual. get the olive drab official factory manual

Remember it is probably the carb that is bad, but there may be more to it than just that.. I don't remember all the inputs to the stepper motor circuit, but I do know that EGR valve is one of them.

good luck
