Question about 2002 Saturn Sl
I have the key in the run position, disconected the batteies postive cable for 15 minets reatached it,no luck
If your security lamp is flashing, 1st question is how does the ignition lock feel? GMs of that era use a system called PASSLOCK that senses proper undamaged rotation of the ignition lock cylinder. They do wear out and break, but not terribly often unless you can feel its loose and floppy or its been sticking and you have to wiggle the key lately to make it turn. If that sounds familiar, you may need to replace the lock cylinder. If the security lamp is on solid and doesnt go out, that mneans a fault has been detected and stored and you are best off having it scanned by a qualified technician or shop with proper scan equipment. If the lamp is flashing, your problem is mosty likely the key/sensor/cylinder are not signalling the body module, OR the body module may be failing.
The cheap version of reprogramming without tools is as follows.
Key off, rotate to on, wait a few seconds, turn to crank for a moment (less than 1 second) and then release key back to the run position. Note the status of the security lamp. It will either be flashing, or ON SOLID if a security problem is recorded and preventing start.
WAIT 10 minutes and then stare in again at the security light. If it is still doing the same thing as before, you must wait 30 minutes total and recheck the light. If it changes in 10 minutes (Some cars it will, usually not unless using a scantool to speed the process), then you should be able to start the car now. If the light hadnt changed what it was doing and is still ON or FLASHING, wait 30 minutes exactly, no more than 35 (counted). Check the light again. When program learn is complete the light will turn OFF and stay off. Rotate key back to start and vehicle should start IF key/security was your issue and no other hard faults exist (Such as failed sensor or defective BCM).
Hope it helps.
