Open Question

Hearing a regular and not loud banging and smell a burning smell.

By pressing the gas the sound disappear, the car perform good but the smell is annoying.

There is a gas smell every time you start the vehicle. What could that be?

My 2007 Land Rover Freelander makes a whistling sound when vehicle is idling. Sound goes away when accelerating or applying petrol?

it may be a turbocharger if so equipted, lots of turbocharged cars whistle as the unit gets older..only other thing I can think of is something with the exhaust system.. get it looked at by putting the car up on a lift and inspecting some cars also whistle thru the radio ..this is called alternator whine and is usually correected by a filter in the power line of the radio...good luck

If you are loosing coolant and there are no leaks, it is usually being burned in the engine because of a leaking head gasket or intake gasket.

I can smell gas outside car. No gas drips on ground. I Just filled gas tank and as I went around a sharp turn, a car in back of me reported gas comming from rear of car. When air is on max, we can smell...

Have the filler hose checked for a break. The hose that connects the filler tube to the gas tank. Sounds like it is loose or broken, when you turn the corner the gas slops out of the tank cause the filler tube is not connected good.

I am smelling gas when the heater is on really bad and smell gas when the heater is off, checked Oxygen censor, checked all plugs for black soot, checked tail pipe for black soot and also had a half tank...

You have to have a leak somewhere. Put a large pc of cardboard under your car overnight. In the morning take notice of where the stain is on the cardboard.

My explorer has trouble reversing. it needs me to press the gas for it to kickin after a while

check your tranny fluid, smell it if it smells burnt time to service the tranny filter and fluid. sounds like a seal is not working.. you might have to think about rebuilding it. good thing is that a lot of clunkers have made it to the junkyards. you can get a good deal on a tranny

Clicking noise from under gove compartment

In our car it disappeared after a while, but then an airpump (open the hood, look above the glove box) died. Repair is excesssively expensive.
A simple test is to put the internal air circulation on; does the sound disappear? If so, you can live with this, it is just annoying.

Smell of gas fumes underneath vehicle near fuel tank

I also have a 2004 XC90 and a couple of months ago I had the exact same probelm... after multiple visits to my dealer's auto shop they figured out that it was the fuel pump. They replaced the fule pump and the smell disappeared. Good luck!
