On a swirl flap operation there is a motor attached to the inlet manifold I presume the motor is fixed to the bottom side. You may need to look at this motor that operates the flaps as these can jam if the cogs are worn inside and will make the eml come on

I had a problem with one of these and it turned out to be swirl flap motor and the actual swirl flaps themselves. If you remove the bonnet and if you look to the rear left of the engine next to the inlet manifold there is a lever that is the for the swirl flaps. When I removed the swirl flap housing ( this was a pain) one of the swirl flaps was bent.

Heater flap? Actually my 93 Chevy has been doing that for about 2 years. I can plug the flap for a short time. Then it sounds like a ticking clock sort of in glove box.-lol. Goes away after about 15 seconds? My guess-sounds like the same issue I have. Nothing to worry about. Easy fix if it really bothers you.

has to do with air intake, turbo stuck or damage or the sensor that detects the amount of movement may be faulty, intake swirl flaps dont open or has broken and got in the engine. do a compression test first.

Vauxhall zafira inlet manifold change

You don't say whether it is petrol or diesel and whether it is a turbo model and what sort of age it is.
The diesel versions are apt to become clogged throughout the egr valve and ports and the intake becomes very oily but a clean should only be needed about every year. This is not typical of the petrol engines.

The oil must be coming from somewhere and there must be quite a lot of it being turned into carbon/sludge in order to be blocking the egr valve so often and that might be at least part of the trouble. There is probably just as much oily carbon going down the exhaust so eventually the CAT will become so blocked it will increasingly rob the engine of power.

The butterfly valves in the intake manifold are part of a design that varies the length of the intake tract in order to increase volumetric efficiency over a wider engine speed range. The engine management decides when to switch the vacuum supply on. Fault diagnosis can be a rather involved and protracted procedure depending which engine is fitted.

I suggest the source of the oil should be investigated and recified if possible before you change the manifold, though removing the manifold could be part of the process of diagnosis. It could be leaking valve stem oil seals or a leaky turbo if fitted, or something more serious. The manifold probably doesn't need replacing and I think it producing more power after you fiddled with it is coincidence...

First put right what you see and what you know and then worry about the other stuff.

Would likely require a complete tear down and rebuild of the engine. A loose piston rod will cause a loud knocking noise. You said very very loud, so I think that would be the engine lower end, a rod or crankshaft or piston problem.
If that's the case, you'd be better off just replacing the engine.

OBD2 CODE READER P0562

fully charge battery and make sure everything switched off i.e rear window demist etc and take it for a run to get it up to tempature then park up rev engine at fast idle approx 2750 rpm for 180 seconds then take foot off throttle and allow to idle for 30 seconds this will clear your catalyst and get it up to the 600 degrees needed for it to operate properly this should remove the engine warning light

I have a 97 sunfire 2.4, today it decided it just wasn't going to start

You need to strip the engine back to where you can replace the
timing chain or belt ,if necessary & install new guides & tensioners

I think you know all that

Long story short, all your saying is timing related

Repair the mechanicals first

The engine does turn over, as the belts move,
just not the cams, you got it all figured out,you
just need to always insure the mechanical condition
of an engine first & not spend so much time attempting
to test ignition

P1270 fault came up on scanner. to repair what is required please?

Well, FIRST before anything can be diagnosed or repaired, you need to read the codes again. Code P1270 is not a valid code for a 2005 Chrysler 300. This is a " vehicle-specific" code that applies to FORD vehicles as well as a few MAZDA and BMW vehicles. It has to do with the engine rev limiter system. CHRYSLER does not use this code...At least not anywhere I can find.

Tapping sound in the engine started 2 days ago. The sound comes and goes at startup (not always present at startup), and disappears on deacceleration. Engine oil is OK. Temp doesn't register above normal. ...

Usually caused by a failed hydraulic lifter. You can verify by removing the valve cover and finding a valve with excess clearance. The lifter/adjuster should be replaced ASAP to avoid damage to the cam lobe. If you would like instructions on replacing the part, please get back to me.
