Well then you need to check for a 5volt refrence volt at the throttle position sensor ! If you don't have 5volts on one of the three wires there one of the vehicle sensors is bring down the system !

Check the cigarette lighter fuse. This is what powers the DLC. If the fuse is good, check and see if the lighter works. If not, you have a bad wire. Code readers have to have power from the car. Most scanners have there own power and will read the computer, unless the data wire is bad or the computer is bad.

Because you probably have the wrong scan tool ! One for new vehicles won't work on pre obd2 vehicles an your not on the correct data wire at the DLC connector ! An you can not use the flash method !

Sputtering engine while in passing gear

At 150000 miles the plugs start to fail under hard acceleration the higher compression blows out the spark before it ignites the fuel. Random cylinder misfire causes the check engine light to come on. change the plugs!

Try going to a local Checker, Autozone or O'Rielys for a code pull. Sounds like a " vehicle speed sensor" problem.

The light being on has probably put the car in "limp in" mode. Its a kind of fail safe system to allow car to be driven to a shop for repairs. You need to have the code or codes read by scanning the engine computer, repair the problem, erase the codes, and then you should be able to drive it again normally.

1991 gmc truck 350 check engine light comes on when passing gear is kicked in and loses power . but when the moter is turned off the light does not come back on till the passing gear is kicked in

Whenever the check engine light is on a fault code for the reason that light was turned on is recorded in the memory of the powertrain control module. You Must now have the system tested to see what shows up.

Ght comes on when passing gear is kicked in and starts losing power but when moter is turnd off and cranked up the light is out till the passing gear is kicked in again

what kind of light, check engine, abs, traction control? usually if the check engine light or service engine soon light comes on under heavy acceleration it leads to a bad O2 sensor. check the ECM for history codes.

My cruise control does not work

Normally when this happens, your computer has a stored or active check engine light code. If there is a code present, your computer will disable the cruise control feature until the check engine light or code is cleared.

possably a vacuum leak. the check engine light comes on with an emmissions issue, ie vac leak, and it will not allow the cruise to work. once the error is fixed, your cruise should work properly again

Turn key, on, off, on, off, on & leave it on (not start) & count check engine flashes. 2 digit codes, for example: flash, flash, flash, pause, flash, flash., is code 32
