I have 96 dodge v10 2500 4x4 with automatic transmission that does not shift into overdrive all the time only will when it gets warmed up had tanny rebuilt once before and has not been shifting into...

The governor solenoid is the first thing I would replace. You have to remove the pan. Messy job. Of course, you know that, you replaced the filter. On the passenger side. Get the right solenoid as it holds the temperature sensor also. Wrong on and you will have other problems.

Surges in and out in overdrive. over50 miles an hour it shift but sometimes goes out

It sounds like your over-drive is going out. Have you serviced the transmission lately? I would highly recommend also having the gov. pressure solenoid screen cleaned and as with most all Dodges, I recommend installing a inline filter in the pressure line going to the cooler. It will prolong the life of your transmission.

It's not hard to do and most any parts store can order you 1, the small inline filter looks like a metal fuel filter, cut the metal line going to the cooler, add some rubber trans. hose and filter. but only AFTER having your transmission serviced! Whoever services your transmission have them inspect the pan well, if you have a lot of metal in the pan, you will more than likely be looking at replacing your transmission in the very near future. Hope this helps.

My 1996 dodge 2500 pickup with a 5.9 gas engine auto trans will not seems like its stuck in a high gear as well because its very slow to accelerate...but fine when i get speed wont move...

put some trans additive like lucas that removes varnish off solenoids--amsoil is anothr brand--ajust the throttlvalve cable on the intake--------may need to rplace governor pressure solenoid and torque converter sol--trans cud be worn out-hav a concerned mechanic take a test drive

Getting poor mileage on my 1996 dodge 2500 diesel pickup. was getting 22mpg know 16 mpg

If you havent changed the plugs or coils, that could be a source of your problem. Also, maybe change your fuel filter and air filter. If you have the test, check your fuel pressure in the engine. Your fuel pump may be weak and need replaced. Best to you.

1997 dodge ram 1500 (360) transmission.

My 95 Cummins Dodge had the same problem and adding "Lucas Transmissiion Fix" cured it completely and permanently.

Thier claim is as follows:

Lucas Transmission Fix is a non-solvent formulas that stops slip, hesitation and rough shifting in worn transmissions and completely eliminates most seal leaks. Use in any transmission for preventative maintenance.Use also in light duty manual transmissions to increase shifting ease and transmission life.
Key Benefits
  • Contains no solvents
  • Lowers operating temperatures and stops foaming
  • Can be added to existing fluid without draining any out
  • Effective in an extremely high percentage of cases

sounds like trans has gone bad, last service of filter and fluid? clogged screen or low/burnt fluid would effest but if clunking sounds like trans is shot
