Question about 1998 Isuzu Amigo

When I push in on the clutch, it goes all the way down with no resistance. I can change gears if I push really hard on the clutch. What is wrong?

It's a 98. I would replace the master and slave. Also do a clutch job.

  • you need to do some checks(1) check clutch master cylinder container if fluid level is ok if not( empty)check for leaks at slave cylinder and master cylinder if either of the two is leaking change them

If hydraulic actuated mechanism, loss of fluid, defective master cylinder or slave cylinder at the clutch. Missing pin or other part between slave cylinder and clutch arm. Loose or broken slave cylinder mounting. Missing pin or broken part between pedal and master cylinder. If mechanical linkage, look for broken components or missing pins at moving joints. If you tried to shift into gear with engine running, you may have damaged the transmission gears.

on gear shift; check fluid level in transmission_(gear oil) air will come out of vents as part of the ventilation system. the a/c clutch may need a new switch or is low on freon.

your clutch may be shot(the clear fluid was most likely from a hydrulic assist line)i do believe you have a hydrulec clutch

Put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail if it has one.

Put starting fluid into throttle body, and if it runs for a short while and dies, then you may have a fuel problem...

Loud snapping noise heard when changing gears


From the way you've described it your gear stick linkages maybe on there way out. When changing gear does the car resist getting into gear?

If it's more of a crunching sound then I would try double de clutching, to do this you need to:
change gear as usual but instead of holding down the clutch throughout the gear change hold it down to take the vehicle into neutral then release the clutch then push the clutch down again and change into desired gear.
To change down it's basically the same principal but you push down the clutch to put the vehicle into neutral then push the throttle down just to pitch revs then release the throttle and push the clutch down to change into your desired gear, if it won't go in to gear easily then rather the throttle until it does.

You can go onto youtube and search for double de clutching and I'm sure some results will come up

Clutch has no pressure when you push it in to change gears sometime you can pump it hard it will go in good then iit goes to the floor again what could be wrong


Put morw brake fluid in clutch master cylinder, pump clutch paddle, look under car for leak, if no leak replace clutch master cylinder, not holding pressure.

I just got a new used 1995 honda accord and already i'm really unhappy. The gears stick terribly and the breaks... you have to push down really hard and they don't break fast. What can i do about the gears...


the gears are sticking? is the shifter just really tight and hard to move from one gear to the next, or even just wiggle around in neutral? if so, you may need new bushings for it. which are not very expensive. IF the shifter wiggles around easily in neutral, but hangs in a gear when you press the clutch in all the way, you could need a clutch, OR hopefully you can just try bleeding the clutch line. at the master cylinder on the transmission. the breaks.... do you have to push the pedal down really hard, or really soft and far? if you're putting a lot of pressure on the pedal but you don't have to push the brake pedal all the way to the floor, that would indicate to me that your pads and rotors are glazed over. you should replace the rotors, pads and have the calipers checked, and have the brakes bled. if you've got to push the pedal all the way to the floor, there's a good chance all you'll need is to have the brakes bled.

Why is it so hard to get my car in gear could it bee the clutch??


Whenever your clutch is worn down it will become harder and harder to engage the gear, until it will finally not go in at all, or just get stuck in one. It is time for a clutch replacement. If you have to have a shop do it, prices can vary greatly from vehicle to vehicle. I had a quote on a prior vehicle for 700. Good luck :)

97 civic hard to get in 1st gear/clutch not disengaging


Look for WETNESS at the Master cylinder, and at the Slave cylinder, attached to the Bell housing. The loss of fluid is reducing the Stroke of the Push Rod, which will create Clutch Drag, as you appear to describe.

My clutch pedal has no resistance and I can't shift gears...


If you have a hydraulic clutch, it is conceivable that the fluid has leaked out. For areas of leakage check up under the dash where the clutch master comes through the firewall., or check down at the transmission at the clutch slave, which is the small cylinder on the transmission. You should also fill the reservoir immediately as well.

If yours is the adjustable type of clutch, then you need to have it ajusted immediately

2nd gear clutching


STOP Downshifting!
STOP Forcing gear change, watch the Engine RPMs and shift accordingly, HOMBRE's are as good as the operator's. Hombre's have dash shift indicators which illuminate when it's time to 'shift' and not before, This has nothing to do with gear oil either. If you've drained it, you best fill it immediately and make sure it's ample level. The heat these gears sustain in is inceredible, cooling lubricant is essential. Here's a tip, while engine is OFF, ignition key is engaged, dash is illuminated, depress clutch peddle, keep it depressed and walk through all gears with gear shift, shifting should be smooth and unpeded, including reverse. If resistance is experienced at one or more gears, gear alignment is off as a result of inproper gear shifting while driving. Continue to drive vehicle just shift slower until clutch needs replacement then do an entire drive shaft upgrade. It worth it, it's great truck.
