Hello there ..this is mi problem i just replace the heads and the shop who did the rectification take off the sprckets out of the camshaft ..whats steps i need to follow to put it back they have marks or something ...is the head from the passenger side ...im goin to post a phote tomorrow ...i need help please thanks

You could but not recommended unless you're installing new bearing caps.. All head components are machined to match. If your camshaft is a used one, good idea to take it to a machine shop so they can confirm its good. If you're doing this, then also take the head that you'll be installing this camshaft so they can match them.

You won't need a manual unless you are going to tackle the job of replacing the belt. Most engines these days are known as "interference engines" - that means if the camshaft(s) stop going round or the timing is lost the piston(s) will hit any valves that are open. The result is either bent valves requiring the removal of the cylinder head in order to replace the valves or greater damage, sometimes completely writing off the engine.

In the case of a broken timing belt it is advisable to carry out valve gear and cylinder leakage checks before any rectification work begins, including belt replacement. Such checks are best carried out by an experienced operative...

Ok 1990 geo storm 1,6 litre dohc replaced water pump replaced 3 valves replaced head gaskets replaced timing belt car wont start any ideas?

the storm is a:
The car is really an Isuzu Impulse minus some of that car's more expensive features.
my guess is you drove the this 4EX1 engine until the cam belt slipped. yes> if yes you bent valves.????????????
so does compression exceed 150psi on all 4 cylinders now?
we use the cylinder leak down test in all DOHC .
if not , back to the drawing board.
if yes, the we check spark next, then try test fuel.
when did the engine last run , last week,month , year,?
who did your valves, a real machine shop or kid down the street.
a read shop pressure tests the head ,and warp checks it and
then makes sure the valves are ready for long service.
are the head bolts at 58 ft/lbs
did you use sealant on the 3 cap caps, per the FSM book.
if not , top end oiling will fail. and cams wrecked.

the 1.6l DOHC has no HLA's
the lash on valves must be checked, and this is corrected with SHIMS.

a pro machine shop does the for you,did they:?
when rebuilding engines, its best to read the factory service manual first. FSM so you know the special steps just for this engine.
ISUZU engine it is.

Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the cylinder head or valve cover.
Position the No. 1 cylinder at TDC on its compression stroke.

The notch on the crankshaft pulley should align with the 0 degrees mark on the timing gear case. Make sure the rocker arms on the No. 1 cylinder are loose and the rockers on the No. 4 cylinder are tight. If not, turn the crankshaft one complete revolution and align the marks again.

Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the cam lobe and the selective shim on the intake and exhaust valves on the No. 1 cylinder, then the intake valves on the No. 2 cylinder and the exhaust valves on the No. 3 cylinder. Note readings.
Rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the cam lobe and the selective shim on the intake and exhaust valves on the No. 4 cylinder, then the intake valves on the No. 3 cylinder and the exhaust valves on the No. 2 cylinder. Note readings.
The valve clearance obtained on the exhaust valves should be between 0.008-0.012 in. (0.20-0.30mm). If not, replace the selective shim by turning the camshaft lobe downward and installing tool J-38413-2 or J-38413-3 (valve lash spring spacer) between the camshaft journal and the cam lobe next to the selective shim. Turn cam lobe upward and remove the selective shim. Install new shim using the selective shim chart.

The rear camshaft bearing caps must be removed to remove the selective shim.

The valve clearance obtained on the intake valves should be between 0.004-0.008 in. (0.10-0.20mm). If not, replace the selective shim by turning the camshaft lobe downward and installing tool J-38413-2 or J-38413-3 between the camshaft journal and the cam lobe next to the selective shim. Turn cam lobe upward and remove the selective shim. Install new shim using the selective shim chart.
When the adjustment is completed, install the cylinder head covers and connect the battery negative cable. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Will not start ran hot then replaced head gasket with new head set put back togeher would not start. Put new camshaft sensor on where should I start next?

Have it towed to the nearest ASE certified repair shop ! What's missing Tammy ? Is there spark ,Is there fuel pressure ? Did you have to take timing chain off to replace head gaskets ? are the timing marks set right ? Why did you replace cam sensor ? You need to find out what is missing first.

if its a misfire code you might have either a bad knock sensor or bad/dirty injectors. get those checked.

What that means are new valve seats and valve guide, with new valve stem,with new or refurbished valves,This is a common need after so many years in service

Loose lifter

Hello fham.... I think you will find that you have to take it to the shop. The valve lifters are located on the camshaft which in the 97 neon is located in the middle of the engine you would need to pull the cylinder heads off to get there, I dont think it will be a quick fix. Joe

How to replace camshaft sensor

Hello: The camshaft sensor is located on the rear cylinder head on the passenger side. Remove the electrical connector. The sensor is held in place by one bolt with a 10mm head. it is a tight fit but with patience you can do it. Apply a coat of light oil to the "o" ring of the new sensor to make it easier to install.

How do i rebuit my motor

You'll need to remove the motor, disassemble the engine, take the engine parts to a machine shop and have them check the heads, block, pistons and rods, crankshaft, camshaft and lifters. They should be able to give you a parts list of what you need to replace.

Hello jjenkins_jcf: My name is Roger and I can help with your problem.The answer to whether or not your engine is a interference engine is yes it is. This means if the camshaft stops and the crankshaft turns.The pistons will touch the head of the valves. This will be severe internal engine damage. I have one in shop right now that this happened to bent all but 5 valves. The easy way to see what happened is to take the valve cover off and you can see the damage. All valves should be up against the camshaft. You will see most of them do not come close to the camshaft. There is no cheap fix. Sorry to tell you this. Yes, a machine shop is the best way.
A warp can be so slight that you won't see it with out the proper equipment.
Just make sure to tell them, you want an estimate before anything is done to it.
If it is warped, they can do a shave to straighten it.
They can also check your valves and valve seats while it is in there.

This is the same as a Ford Escort 1.9, the #1 cylinder should be all the way up. To confirm- the crak shift mark should be on zero which is Crank Shift Center- THe camshift sproket should align with the headmark. Make sure both marks don't move. Align the belt- not too tight , not to loose

In a "Nut Shell":
Purchase a top end gasket set for your engine, open the hood, disconnect the battery, remove intake components (filter, breather, linkages, fuel line, manifold, etc...), remove valve cover, remove head bolts in a cross pattern, take head to machine shop to have head resurfaced, clean mating surface on block, install new head gasket and reverse order to reassemble.

Otherwise, for more specific/accurate instruction get a good shop manual for your engine.
