Code 733 means the ratio is wrong for third gear. Usually its a sensor problem, but it would depend on your make and model.

More than likely a sensor , If there are no other codes I would cancel, it may have come on for no reason some times that happens . If it comes back check third gear sensor..

OBD II codes P0733 & P0745

This is an easy one, the P0733 is a 3rd gear ratio error and the745 is the corresponding solenoid code. More than likely it's a broken band and/or the piston that applies said band

CAN I AKS A QUESTION, FOR A PROBLEM CODE P0733 FORD EXPLORER 2002 XLT

P0733 indicates which gear has a gear ratio that varies from the correct gear ratio, the corresponding in-gear trouble code ranges from DTCs P0731-36.

Without taking apart the transmission and inspecting for damage, it is difficult to say what the exact problem is, but many people who get the P0733 code have fixed the problem by replacing the accumulator in the transmission.

Other possible causes include:
  • ATF level low
  • Deteriorated ATF
  • Shift solenoid B or F malfunction
  • Pressure control solenoid malfunction
  • Line pressure low
  • Low clutch slipping
  • High clutch slipping
  • Control valve malfunction
  • Oil pump malfunction
  • TCM malfunction
