Year make and model please. Some fixes can be done with out pulling the transmission. It's messy, but worth it.

When i put car in reverse makes a winding noise and wont shift an any other gears

if engine rpm advances (fast to 3000), and the car dont move
the tranny is bad (what part , dont know)

so did you get to 3000 ENGINE rpm and car didnt move.?
that is bad trans. its slipping
1: check all fuses
2: check levels of ATF in tranny
3: do the 50,000 mile full flush and filter. change and pray?
4: do the FSM stall test, It fails, bad.
5: step 2 in FSM after above fails, measure (gage) the tranny pump pressure. if bad pressure (2 tests) tranny is bad.

all that is in FSM
or alldata.com login and read ON CAR tranny tests.

My suburban with 4l60e wont shift out of 2nd gear. when you put it in drive, it does fine til time to go into 3rd. it seems to just go into neutral, letting the rpms fly so i just put it in 2nd gear and...

I had a similar problem with a Dodge Caravan - On the Dodge, it's called limp mode, designed to protect the engine and tranny. If you can get the OBD-2 engine codes and look them up online you may find that the problem is elsewhere in the drivetrain. Not really an answer, but a solid suggestion of where to go from here....

Wont shift properly

First, check the transmission fluid while engine (tranny) is at operating temperature. If it is full, then have the fluid and filter (will require new gasket) changed. I recommend adding a quart of Lucas Oil (inquire with mechanic or auto parts dealer for details and suggestion for this as well). I add this to ALL my cars without regret.

If changing the fluid and filter (gasket) do not make a difference, I suggest inquiring with a transmission specialist about having the transmission rebuilt or seeing if maybe the torque converter could simply be the problem.

I suggest having the filter and fluid changed first (don't forget the gasket) as this will be a cheaper start and fix; if this is the problem.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

I was towing and the hud said hot transmission fluid bring engine to idle. I pulled over and let the tranny cool but since then the trucks shift pattern has changed. First revs to 5000 rpm before changing...

your transmission oil is likely burnt,there by losing it's viscosity. check for brown rather than red fluid on dipstick.have transmission oil & filter changed.it is possible overheating will have caused additional damage.

Goes into neutral and then shifts hard into 1st on slowdown

It sounds like your input clutch seals are rolling. Is the check engine light on. It could also be the pressure control solenoid could be causing the problem aswell

My transmission wont shift properly rpm goes up too high

sounds like the clutches are slipping or you have a bad seal in tranny, which wont allow it to keep pressure. have you changed the fluid and filter?

Hello;
Ahhhh I see from the next post why. Have you changed the transmission fluid and filter?
Let me know, and is this the only problem with the transmission you are aware of?
Thanks;

Tranny problem???

If your transmission is slipping, (seeming like its in neutral) a faulty Fluid Pump, or a defective Torque-Converter could be the problem. It could also be one of the bands inside which locks the transmission into different gears within the planetary gearsets.

First and second gear actually have one extra band each that is a Manual-First/Manual-Second engaging band which is activated by selecting Manual-First or Manual-Second and in some cars, Manual-Low with the gear-selector. And because of these bands, gives the selected gear more "grip" so to speak on those gears.
