Sounds like a blown fuse. Check the fuse box. It should be located somewhere on the left drivers side kick panel below the dash.

Problem with the license plate lamp and the trailer connector.

It's possible these are two separate problems. You will have to find out why the power is not reaching the license plate lamp assembly, and this means tracing the circuit. Check for power and ground at the lamp. You will have to identify the correct wires and follow them back toward the fuse to find the problem. A wiring diagram will make it much easier to solve.
Same with the trailer connector. If it's not working, I assume you mean there is no power when you plug in your trailer. You will have to figure out which wire is supposed to supply battery voltage and why it isn't. Are there any broken wires? Corrosion? Does the trailer connector have any connection to the license plate lamps? (It shouldn't.)

When i plug a trailer up to my 1994 toyota pickup, the trailer lights dont work. the lights over the license plate dont work. could there be a fuse that is blown, does the plate lights need to work for the...

You shouldn't need the license plate lights to work to make your trailer lights work. Chances are that there is an issue with the wiring it's self. On my father 94 pick up the wiring is spliced directly in the taillight wiring. If your taillights work there shouldn't be an issue with the trailer lights. Start by checking or remounting the ground wire attached to the wiring harness. If that isn't the issue test the input of the harness followed by the output. If there is input but no output you need to replace the harness. Try the CURT 55379 you can purchase this by visiting one of their retailers by clicking here.

My 2007 GMC Z71 Has no taillights or license plate lights. However my brake , hazard, and turn signals all work. What happened?

The tailight markers and plate lights are wired together. A fuse to the marker lights or sometimes called, park lights, may be blown. You may have a naked hot wire rubbing metal. Sometimes SUV's have trouble with trailer light plus also that ground out the circuit.

Parking lights on Nissan Frontier on - trailer parking not. 4 pin connector to factory connector (after market sealed wiring) - brake and turn signals work - no power to "brown" wire at factory connector...

First check the fuses. There may be one for trailer running lights. Check also power at the harness. If the brake lights and turn signals are seperate, there has to be a converter from 5 to 4 wire. For the power to feed back to the brake lights it sounds like the vehicle wiring is direct and not using a converter... or one of the bulbs on the trailer is contacting both contacts. Try http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx and maybe get a simple 4 pin tester that plugs into the 4 pin connecter. Hope this helps.

Brakelight problem

Your problem is not in the stop light switch.
What you have is a short circuit, or a cross-transference of power.

Your problem will be eliminated by one of the 3 following possibilities:

If you have a trailer hitch wiring harness installed, remove it completely, and see if the problem disapperars; trailer harnesses are notorious for the contacts for the trailer connection getting corroded.

If you do not have a trailer harness, look under the bed, at the wire that feeds the rear taillamp harness, unplug the connector, and look for greenish-blue corrosion inside the connector, this corrosion, if present will also give you thi scondition.

Lastly, look closely at the bulb sockets, and see if there is any corrosion where the bulb plughs in. Corrosion will "backfeed" power, and cause your condition.

One of the above will eliminate your condition.

Thnaks for choosing FixYa.
