Question about 1994 Buick Century
Assuming the fluid level is normal, the most common cause is a failing pump. A shop could run a pressure test and maybe find out.
You may end up needing another transmission, and the car may not be worth the cost.

There is a part on the drivers side of the transmission called the interlock switch .
A shaft on the side of the trans slides into it evertime you move coloum selector it moves and sends to the VCM /computer .
I can't say for sure but it could the problem .
I think im haveing the same problem with my chevy .I just touch the selecter and it stalls at start up and I have replaced this part 9 years ago

it will not move because it is low on transmission fluid, warming the car casues the fluid to expand therefore making movement possible. also fluid looses viscosity when heated so you may want to look a full fransmission fluid and filter change. But still, get your car warm and check the transmission fluid, i bet its low. Dont forget to rate.

remove the positive battery cable from the post
remove the 3 wires from the starter and the two bolts holding the starter to the block.
reverse the procedure for installation.

Testimonial: "I know that there is usually only 2 bolts to remove a starter. I've identified one bolt but was not sure about the location of the other one. Thanks"
SOURCE: transmission flares
MODEL: MY 2001-2002 S60, V70, V70 XC
SUBJECT: Shift Quality Issues due to B4 Servo Cover Failure, 2-3 upshift harshness or flare
CHASSIS: These chassis breaks are approximate:
V70 XC: 036000-067100
TRANSMISSION SERIAL NUMBER: The first 3 digits of the serial number on the affected transmissions will be between 01C (March 2001) and 01L (December 2001).
In the AW 55-50, brake number four (B4), is only applied in 3rd gear. The B4 is applied by a piston, which is covered by an aluminum cap. This cap has a steel washer crimped to its inside surface, and a rubber cushion that sits between the cover and the washer.
If this washer breaks free from the crimps it will become concaved because of the B4 piston return spring pressure.
This loose washer can cause: - " 2-3 upshift flare / slip - " Harsh 2-3 upshifts - " 3-4 upshift flare / slip - " Harsh 4-3 downshifts
Replacing the broken B4 cover with a new one (PN 30651771) will remedy these symptoms.
