On cars in the U.S., the power wire to injectors is a fused circuit- it is supplied with constant battery power anytime key is in on, or run, or start. So the fuse says hot in run or start. See if your injector connector has one hot terminal with key on. That is the power, and the ground to injectors goes right into the ecu, into what is called the injector drivers, but they really provide ground for the injector solenoid. The harness connector to the throttle body unit should have both injector power and ground wires.

Help with 87 Ford Ranger. Good crank, no start, no spark. Tested for signal from module to coil with tester stuck in #5 wire of module. Truck started one time immediately. Drove about 10 miles.

I doubt you have tried everything and without a wiring diagram it will be impossible to know what "everything" is.

The timing signal must come from somewhere, to be processed by the engine management ECU into pulses for the fuel injectors and the ignition amplifier. The timing signal generally is from the distributor or crankshaft position sensor and there could also be a camshaft sensor involved too.

An oscilloscope is the best method for testing and tracing such signals and pulses but much can be done with a multimeter, though neither analogue or digital will be fast enough to record either the input signals to the ECU or the output pulses so the ohm meter will be the main tool.

Noid lights can check if the injectors are receiving a pulse and if they are you can be fairly confident the ECU has a good supply and ground and input from the crank sensor though it can't be taken for granted the ECU is sending a pulse to the ignition amplifier but with the aid of a wiring diagram the wiring and supply and ground of the amplifier can be checked but without the aid of an oscilloscope no firm diagnosis can be made though the balance of probability would say the ignition amplifier is less long lasting and reliable than the ECU.

It is also worth a mention that the current flowing in some of those connections is very small and so such as the ECU and ignition amplifier connecting pins must be spotlessly clean. I have known some of them to develop a virtually invisible oxide coating and that is enough to prevent the engine being started - if any of the pins appears less than bright metal it would be wise to clean it and the receptacle.

You can usually connect fuel injector harness by length of wiring connection at the injector. I strongly recommend the purchase of a Chilton or Haynes manual for this vehicle. The Code you have maybe a stored fault from a prior event. Stored faults must be deleted in order to view current status of ODBII (ECU). The manuals have wiring diagrams as well as a list of the fault codes.

Which sensors tell the ECU to send a pulse to the single TBI injector?

You want a simple answer but there is not one. The ECU looks at many things to determine what (if any) pulse is proper. Any sensor which sends no information or info outside of normal limits can prevent pulse. No info from crank/cam sensor is common issue, Bad EFI fuse or relay can do this. Bad ECU ground or other ground (Fuel rail) can do this. Many sensors can be tested with ohm meter.

How do you know #5 is running rich? error codes tell you that? I doubt it. But if you are sure, check the connections and the wire all the way back to the Ecu. my wild guess, the control is shorted to a positive supply and therefore the injector thinks it is supposed to supply wide open fuel. Or you have a bad ecu that is telling it the same thing.

Hello Monica, that is a wide area to cover ,so you can go to auto zone site and log in (its all free) go to (my vehicle)in put info then go to (repair guide) then to sub catagorys there are a few including trouble shooting. check pressure regulater and or vacuum supply to it as well, you should have a test port next to it or near, test it with a pressure gauge to see ,pressure should be 35+ pounds . i really hope this helps you ,if it does please let me know

Probably a fused circuit, so first check the fuse. Check all fuses as a precaution. The ecu would be pulsing the injectors.

I have an esteem 1999 2 injectors aren't getting electricity from the ecu spark plugs are all hot w 3-4 inj. working properly but why would this happen

Don't know. Either a malfunction internally in the ecu, or bad wires from ecu to injectors. You could pull off the ecu connector and check for continuity on the wires from ecu to the two injectors. If the power.wires are not broken and show low resistance, check both ground wires from the two injectors to ecu for continuity. If the wires are good, it must be the ecu.

The fule injector is not getting any power is there any thing in betwin the ECU and the injector? 1992 suzuki sidekick 1.6 EFI 8V

most fuel injectors have a continuous power supply with the key on. they are controlled on the ground side by the ecm. there is no relay or anything between the ecu and the injectors. there is a lot of wiring though and there are fuses which supply power to the injectors.
