P2096- Post Catalyst Fuel Trim Sys Too Lean Bank1... It could be the result of bad gas or if you used fuel with a higher content of Ethanol. It could also mean that the post cat. converter O2 sensor on the driver side is bad. I would try filling up with a good quality gas (minimal Ethanol content), disconnect the negative terminal on the battery for a minute or so to reset the MAL (malfunction indicator light) and see if that takes care of it. If the code reappears, you may have a bad sensor, maybe ECU ECM PCM, worst case.... If you happen to need any info or ECU ECM PCM for this current vehicle (as they have a HIGH failure rate) or ANY other type of Car, diesel trucks small and big, SUV DIESELs ANYTHING etc, please call 888-672-4816 or 954-279-2040 and tell them Tim From FIXYA.COM sent you for FREE PROGRAMMING on YOUR NEW ECU ECM PCM DIESEL OR GAS COMPUTER!! Best Regards, -Tim

SOURCE: 2005 jeep grand cherokee trouble code p2096 change

These conditions MUST be ruled out entirely.
Check for any of the following conditions/mechanical problems.
AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM - must be free from leaks
ENGINE VACUUM - must be at least 13 inches in neutral
ENGINE VALVE TIMING - must be within specifications
ENGINE COMPRESSION - must be within specifications
ENGINE EXHAUST SYSTEM - must be free of any restrictions or leaks
ENGINE PCV SYSTEM - must flow freely
TORQUE CONVERTER STALL SPEED - must be within specifications
POWER BRAKE BOOSTER - no internal vacuum leaks
FUEL - must be free of contamination
FUEL INJECTOR - plugged or restricted injector; control wire not connected to correct injector.

Unfortunatly, a scan tool will be required to monitor o2 sensor voltages while the engine is running in closed loop. This code you are displaying is NOT an easy solution to trace down. I expect you had an exhaust leak and is why the cats were replaced? Anyway, if so, the PCM can reset the light after a few GOOD trip readings occur that will satisfy the PCM's no fault signal, otherwise the JEEP dealer is going to be your only solution and a pressure test should be performed.

SOURCE: Engine code P2096 for a 2005 Dodge Noen 2.0litre

P2096 is Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System To Lean Bank 1.
In most cases this code refers to a bad O2 sensor in the exhaust. Due to year etc, senor replacement. here is the technical info for the code. Indicating O2 sensor 1/2 meaning bank 1, sensor 2 plus shows other posssibles

SET CONDITION
If the PCM multiplies short term compensation by long term adaptive as well as a purge fuel multiplier and the result is below a certain value for 30 seconds over two trips, a freeze frame is stored, the MIL illuminates and a trouble code is stored. Two Trip Fault. Three good trips to turn off the MIL.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
Exhaust leak
Engine mechanical
1/2 O2 Sensor
(K141) O2 Sensor 1/2 signal circuit
(K299) O2 1/2 Heater control circuit
(K904) O2 Return downstream circuit
Fuel contamination

Always perform the Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. See: Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview\Initial Inspection

DIAGNOSTIC TEST
1. ACTIVE DTC

NOTE:
- Check the vehicle repair history. If the 1/2 O2 Sensor has been replaced make sure that the O2 sensor was properly installed and meets OEM specification.
- Check for contaminants that may have damaged the O2 Sensor: contaminated fuel, unapproved silicone, oil and coolant.

Ignition on, engine not running.
With a scan tool, read DTCs.

Q: Is the DTC active at this time?

YES: Go To 2
NO: Refer to the INTERMITTENT CONDITION Diagnostic Procedure. See: Component Tests and General Diagnostics Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. See: Verification Tests\Powertrain Verification Test

2. EXHAUST LEAK
Turn the ignition off.

WARNING: TO AVOID PERSONAL INJURY FROM THE EXHAUST SYSTEM BEING HOT, ALLOW THE EXHAUST TO COOL DOWN TO A SAFE TEMPERATURE BEFORE PERFORMING A PHYSICAL INSPECTION. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAN RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.

Visually and Physically inspect the exhaust system for holes, cracks, and blockage in the exhaust system.

Q: Is the exhaust system is good condition?

YES: Go To 3
NO: Repair or Replace as necessary. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. See: Verification Tests\Powertrain Verification Test

ENGINE COMPRESSION - must be within specifications
ENGINE EXHAUST SYSTEM - must be free of any restrictions or leak

Codes 3, 61 on a 2005 dodge magnum

P0003 is fuel circuit volume low and P0061 is 02 sensor bank 2 sensor 3 heater circuit.

Generally a heater code usually means replace the 02 sensor. The heating element popped, kinda like a litght bulb does.

The 03 code will need further diagnosing to determine the exact cause.
