Hi ya'all. Please help me from further rip off. Is there a MAF sensor in my 2001 cougar or just a meter. I was charged for a MAF sensor at $240 but I can't find a part on my car that looks like that.

Oh my gosh can you help me is the Mass Air Flow Sensor a big round part with a screen on one end. Is it the same as a Mass Air Flow meter which is a small square plastic part. They told me they replaced the Mass Air Flow sensor but the part I found I my car looks like a MAF meter which what I find on line is quite a bit cheaper. Please help are these two parts the same or are they different. Thank you

Well, the mass airflow meter and sensor should be the same part.
Its a metal (plastic) tube between the intake and the air filter with a sensor inside. They are available new and rebuilt.

Thanks Stephen, but I am still confused. The shop that replaced the MAF SENSOR only gave me back the small square plastic part and I can't find the tube on my car (maybe I am blind besides being ignorant when it comes to vehicle parts). but I know they did not do the right thing when they worked on my car which is still running bad after $850 worth of work. Thank you so much for your help...someone I can trust.

This is the sensor. The "sensor" part is the black box on top and inside the metal tube.

Ford cougar

If holding back on excelleration like to be the MAF sensor faulty. Easy to test by simply unplugging MAF sensor, car is likely to stall on tick over by doing this but on higher revs if car then revs freely then you could try cleaning MAF sensor with aerosol cleaner you can purchase from most car factors but more likely to need replacing.

Hi there,

The temperature gauge relies on readings from the Engine Coolant Temp (ECT) Sensor.

The ECT sensor is usually located on (or near) the thermostat/coolant housing.

Refer to component No. 8 (2.0L Engine):

Hi I have a 89 Cutlass Ciera and on my MAF SENSOR one of the bridge contacts has come loose. Can this be soldered or not? Thanks for your replies Dan

Hello danno44: My name is Roger and I will help you. I would recomend replacing the mass air flo sensor. Unless you have the correct soldier and soldier gun you will damage the sensor beyond repair. The sensor is a lot cheaper than they use to be. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

I'm having trouble locating the reason my 1989 Volvo 760 Gle starts just fine, but keeps shuting off

Hi

Most likely cause is the air mass meter also known on modern cars as the MAF sensor. check for any air leaks in the pipes also. any rips in the air pipes will choke the engine.

Hope this helps

Code p1131 on a 1999 mercury cougar

Lack of HO2S-11 Switch, Indicates Lean.Right bank front 02 sensor. When an HO2S sensor indicates lean at the end of a test, the system is trying to correct for an over-lean condition. The code is set when the fuel control system no longer detects switching for a calibrated amount of time.In other words the 02 sensor is indicating lean and the fuel trim has reached the programed limit trying to correct it.
There are many things that could cause this like a bad 02 sensor,a vacuum leak,a leaking or contaminated fuel injector/s,a stuck open PCV valve, leak in hose between MAF sensor and engine causing un-metered or unmeasured air entering the engine, exhaust leak, improperly seated oil dipstick, stuck EGR valve.
Check PCV valve first if it is stuck open if you pull the hose off of the valve cover that hooks to the air tube between MAF and engine you will feel a strong vacuum pull there, normal you would hardly feel it.

Rough runnin jetta

Try disconnecting the MAF sensor, if the problem clears either clean the MAF with brake clean or replace it, whichever works.
