Easy check out is to put a volt meter on the battery terminals (+,-)and see what the alternator is sending back to the battery. should be anywhere from 12.5volts to 14 depending.
Hi,I know you changed the alternater and the belt is not slipping, try the plug connector just pull it off and put back again, was there a little earth lead that went to the back of the alternater.
the only other thing I can surgest is you take it to halfords and ask them to do a free test on the battery and alternater while it still on the car,its free and it only takes 5minits or so.
hope this helped a bit.
A open in the wiring somewhere , a burnt fuse or fusible link ! I don't know what make , model an year vehicle you have but most all newer vehicles the charging systems are controlled by the PCM / ECM - engine computer . You should start by doing a good inspection of the wiring harness an connectors on the alternator , no lose connections ! I would tell you to check for battery voltage on the heavier wire on the back of the alternator ! If I knew what make an model an year I could tell you what fuse's to look at ! if our battery light stay on 1st check all fuses 2nd if the alternator charge good it might be the circuit of alternator that give power to dash that not working alternator charge good but dont send signal to computer me i would check the fuses first under the hood and inside car after i would disconnect the battery for 5 minute reconnect and see if computer reset light i would start with that thanks pierre

ok , i bet you didnt test all fuse. in dash and under hood, i bet
fuses that look good, can be bad (hair cracks)
use and ohmeter, 0ohms good, infinity bad.
if you have 12v and the Cig lighter and the dash is dead.
then the fuses are blown.
