Re: How to change the filter on a 2005 ford escape v6...
There is no serviceable filter to replace on a maintenance schedule the only way to replace the filter/screen is to remove the transmission and disassemble it trust me im a former ford Trans builder

I have had my 2005 Escape 8 years. .... Ford Escape Limited 2010 - V6 AWD ....Brought my vehicle for 15T kms servicing and reported a jerking when I am ..
Is it coming from the tranny for sure? Could it be your stabilizer links? Also have your lower control arm bushings checked as there is a tsb for those.
Actually, I had a transmission rebuilt by a certified transmission shop and they recommended that I go to a shop to have it flushed and filled every 30,000 mi. and that it was better than draining and filling with a filter change.
The tune up is every 100,000 / The transmission and fuel filter is every 30,000 / The air filter is as needed depending on the driving conditions or every 12,000 / Oil changes every 3000 to 5000 miles
Filter is not in the pan- my wife has an '03 Tribute with the 3.0, and
trust me, it's not under the pan. From everything I have read, it's
inside the tranny someplace and not accessible without tearing the
thing out and down.
And, yes there is a drain plug on the side/bottom of the tranny case- you can use a 3/8" ratchet w/o a socket on it to loosen/tighten.
the transmission filter is located in the transmission pan.
remove the pan note: there is no drain plug. once you have removed the transmission pan the filter will be visible.
clean area and apply new gasket than reassmeble.
You will have to pull the pan off the bottom of the trans, the filter is inside, this is a very messy job and you will most likely get trans fluid everywhere, I would suggest a shop do this unless you have a good floor jack and 4 jack stands, you will also need a large drain pan to catch the fluid. If you do this job do not overfill the trans, get it hot before you top it off with fluid, add 2 quarts right away and then keep adding until it is just below the fluid full line on the dip stick.
PS the other post is a fluid flush and does not include a pan removal or filter change.
