First and second gears work good under 3000 rpm but wont shift into third

what you probably have is a problem with the transmission control module. somehow the solenoids inside the transmission are not operating like they should because the module is not sending the the signal from the ecm. this is a good starting point. you could also try adding lucas to the trans because you could have a stuck solenoid. hope these are helpful options please rate...thanks

transaxle reset mode page 148 of the owner manual. when the transaxle sensor detects an abnormal condition that can cause damage, it drops the transmission into second gear to protect the transaxle from damage. pull over to the side of the road, shut off the car and restart it. it may go away for a little while and let you drive normally. mine kept getting worse. I took it to the dealer and they had to replace a part that works with the transaxle (not the transaxle or transmission itself). it cost about $900 and took them 3 attempts as the first two replacement parts were bad out of the box.

it is going in limp mode,
if your speedometer is not working will cause this, that would be a speed sensor,or the other two reasons would be the input or output sensors on the tranny
