Should idle between 550 or 650 RPMs. If it wont stay running under 1000 RPMs there is something wrong. Idling at or above 1000 RPMs it' going to be slamming into forward and reverse.
First take the vacuum line off the fuel regulator and look for fuel if any fuel is in it means the diaphram is bad.Replace regulator. If regulator is good take (IAC) idle air control valve off and clean it with a wire brush and a non-chlronated brake cleaner then reset computer.
You could have something as simple as a loose vacuum line or you could have a problem with the ( IAC ) Idle Air Control Module. You can CAREFULLY spray carb cleaner along the lengths of vacuum tubing in short ( 1 second ) bursts - if the idle races, then look where you just sprayed for a loose , fallen off or cracked vacuum lines. If that doesn't work then you'll need to have the IAC checked to see if it's working properly - your local shop should be able to quickly check that for proper operation. If the IAC is bad, they are relatively easy to change - with the biggest expense being the part. It is also possible to clean out the IAC which may restore operation by removing the IAC from the intake system and blasting it out real good with carb cleaner, then re - installing the IAC and testing it by starting the vehicle. Hope this helps!
The first things I would check is the TPS and the IAC. The IAC may be electronically fine but mechanically may be stuck. The only way to tell is to remove and manually try to push in the plunger or replace with a known good. The TPS will show higher voltage than normal for idle and should be obvious if the scan tool data shows this.
