Where are the timing marks for a 1998 Nissan sentra gxe

most vehicles have a crank timing mark which sit on the crank pulley, its the big pulley at the bottom of the motor
the cam pulley should also have a mark on the pulley if its belt driven that should line up with a notch on the head or tappet cover
if its chain driven you will need to remove the tappet cover and your cam sprockets will have marks on them that must line up facing each other or facing level with the sides of the head

How do you fix timing on 96 nissan sentra

For adjusting the ignition timing, you need a timing light.
Attach the spark lead from the timing light to the number one spark plug.
If the timing light is a powered type then
Attach the power leads of the timing light to the battery - red lead to the + terminal on the battery and the black lead to the - terminal on the battery.

Loosen the distributor so you can adjust the timing, start the engine and press the timing light trigger and aim the timing light on the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley. Adjust the distributor to the recommended timing mark for your engine.
Turn off the engine, remove the timing gun and tighten the lock on the distributor.

You want to wipe off the links of the lower timing chain next to the timing marks on the sprocket and put paint marks on the timing chain matching them with the timing marks on the idler sprocket and crankshaft sprocket.

The owners manual says for setting the timing is at 8 degrees,When using the timing light, What mark is 8 degrees?

The engine turns clockwise, the first mark is tdc (top dead centre) and the second mark is preset at 8 degrees so when using a timing light line up the second mark on the pulley with the fixed mark on the timing cover at idle

How do you set the timing on a 2005 nissan altima 2.5 the crank has line up marks but there are no mark to go by on the head to line up the cams.

The cam has an access cover that allows you to see that the timing points line up. You have to look at the cam from the end on the passenger side and see that the points line up. This is done by making sure the lower pulley is on Top Dead Center and then look to see that the cam and the pointer line up with the inspection cover removed.,,,,,,, I copied this from somebody else, I thought I would pass it on. I have a Nissan Sentra, but I am not familiar with the cams. Hope this helps.

I have 1995 Nissan Maxima. On the crank pulley

V6 engines (VG30) renowned for breaking exhaust manifold studs. As to the pulley marks, looking at the engine from the pulley side, as the pulley rotates clockwise, the first mark up is TDC, the second is the timing mark for when the engine is running and you are using a strobe light.
