If these are the FRONT brakes, it's not too bad of a job IF you are somewhat mechanically inclined. Jack, jack stands, metric wrenches and sockets, etc.. I'd suggest stopping at your Public Library and check out a Chilton's book on 'how to do it'.. Next stop would be to your local Parts Store (O-Reilly's, NAPA...) and tell them what you are going to do. They can help with the parts. I'd recommend replacing the brake rotors also. You CAN have them turned (machined) but if you do, you'll more than likely have to replace them before your next brake job. Once you get an idea of the cost of the parts (i.e. brake pads and rotors), compare prices (specials, sales) at some of your local repair shops. You might find that you aren't really saving all that much money PLUS if you screw something up, the only person you can yell at it yourself...

How do i get the calapers off the rear of a 2006 grand caravane?

Using a C clamp depress the claiper. There a spot right in the middle to do this. Now the fun part hope you have metic hex key set. The 2 caliper guide pins are on the back inside the boots. Which need to be in great condition. Using the metic hex keys some are 7mm or 8mm turn to your right to remove. Rmove the caliper mounting bracket bolts. Fun part #2 removing the disc rotor. Theres parking brake pads or a durm brake system on the inside of the rotor. If the rotor does not slide off. You must remove the rubber gromet on the back of the backing plate. Using a screwdriver or the old brake adjuster tool turn the star wheel to adjust the parking brake in to remove the disc rotor. All brake guides on the calipers & guide pins need to have high temperture brake grease applyed to them. Buy the big bottle for $10 for the front brakes & future use it comes with a bush. Note ** Remove a guide pin take to auto store buy socket to reinstall guide pin/bolt. Why Caliper guide pins 26lbs torque. Caliper mounting bolts 125lb torque

Instructions for replacing the front brake pads-2005 Hyundai Tucs

Jack the front of the car up, and make sure it is securely supported. Remove the wheel, remove the 2 guide bolts (located on the back of the caliper), and remove the caliper, hanging it by a coat hanger or wire to keep pressure off the brake line. Remove the pads and shims. Clean rotor with brake parts cleaner, and install new pads/shims. Repeat on other isde. Check with the parts store to see whether or not you need to use anti-squeak compound for your specific brake pads. Once you install them, you will need to bed the brakes to get the most use out of them. Accelerate to 30mph, then hard brake to zero (5-10 times), then repeat but to 60mph and hard brake to zero. Do this a couple times, and you will get very long life out of your brakes.

Brake Time

www.autozone.com generally has some pretty good repair guides and i would not skimp too much on brake parts considering what they do.... if the car is a beater (high mileage lots of wear) then you can usually just go with the economy brand being careful that you buy from a reputable parts store.
