Sounds like the locking / latch mechanism is either locked or broken, try to remove the glove box after removing all the screws that secure the hinges on the glove box.
check under the glove box door to see if you can see the hinges. Sometimes you can unscrew the hinges from the bottom. Else you have to knock out the hinge pin on both hinges, open the door from the bottom and see if you can swing the door up to undo the latch.
If this does not work, cut a hole in the bottom ot the glove box, it is usually made of plastic or papier mache, release the latch from inside, then you can remove the plastic box once it is open and replace it with a new one. It will cost you, but it will be less expensive that breaking down the metal door!
Hi, how are you? From what you are describing the latch on the inside sounds like it has broken and is not releasing. You can try to lay on the floor and look up in the bottom of the back of the glove box there are two tabs one on each side.If you push these tabs inward the bottom of the box should come free and help the top to come free.If you cannot see the tabs or can’t get the tabs pushed in, you are going to have to force it open, you can do this with a flat pry bar, wrap the end with a cloth to protect the paint. The good news is that the glove box latch is pretty cheap to replace.
It is in the glove compartment to keep theives from opening the hood and stealing the vehicle or engine parts. Since the vehicle is a Jeep-style convertible, the interior is not secure.
To open the hood do the following (I own a 1997)
open the glove box.
reach up and to the right and you will feel the handle.
Pull handle.
The hood will still look closed, so you have to lift up on the front of the hood and then push the internal release, whioch is in the middle of the front of the hood.
