James, there is a lot of things that can cause stalling, anything from. EGR Valve sticking in the open position. Vacuum Leaks large enough to cause stalling problems. WIRING issue where wires are frayed and grounding on the engine are brackets somewhere. FUEL PUMP that after heats up shuts down. Throttle Position Sensor that's BAD. and much more.

James each and everyone of this things and more will need to be diagnosed to find the one thing that's causing you problem. The engine size, make, model would help a little but stalling issues are hard to find. ONE THING THOUGH:

James, I want you to try one thing tap the Idle Air Control Motor and see if the idle changes. Next, tap on the TPS and see if the idle changes. Next, tap on the EGR Valve and see if the idle changes. Next, wiggle all the engine wiring and see if the idle changes. I hope one of these will lead you to the problem. Rachel, I'd feel better about helping you if we had a trouble code to start with. If you know someone that has a hand held scanner that will check the codes and post the code here or on my website below I will be able to help you with more confidence we are headed in the direction to repair your vehicle.

I will tell you that the Cam Shaft Position Sensor and Crank Shaft Position Sensor is the most common problem I find with a no start on this vehicle. BUT, it could also be fuel relayed so I'd feel much better if I had a code to go by.

don't ram it into a pole, that seldom helps the ticking.
get a pressure test done to be sure the oil pump is functioning as it should, motor flush is not always a good idea but if it helped then it probably didn't get rid of all of the sludge, if a lifter collapses, it will always tick no matter what you do, if it is an oil pressure issue the tick can come and go.
one thing to consider, sludge happens from poor maintenance, it can hide other issues, clearing out all of the sludge can cause an engine knock if the bearings are worn.
