Engine replacement So I will be swapping engines same engine type. I have done some research and besides a lot of maneuvering/adjusting in and out is there anything specific I should watch out for? It has an automatic transmission that will be left in during the swap. I've found that the 4x4 system may cause some trouble with positioning/range of motion. Thanks in advance!

Pull yours first and set it on the floor next to the one you purchased. Check them both thoroughly. Pull the flywheel off yours and put in on the new one. Brackets change from year to year, check bolt patterns. The engine is the same but you could run into trouble. It is easier to swap parts on the floor, than it is when the engine is installed. Also, check electrical sensor plugs. They change also.

Here's a thought. would it be easier to remove and install the engine and transmission connected as one piece?

  • steve h woody Feb 26, 2015

not allways im not sure you can fit the transfer case out from under, you pull the drivr shaft and remove transnission crossmember to back up tranny a little then remove motor ,the other is you will need one big engine hoist to pull bout dew to the length unless you remove the front grill compleatly

Will a 06 engine work in a 02 car

Hey Brent,
Since we do not know what type car you are talking about..I will generalize >> Swapping an engine, especially one that is 4 years apart, is/may be impossible.. OR it might fit.. If the engine is the same exact engine from the same manufacturer it would make things a lot easier,,..WHAT vehicle are we talking about?,, unless you get the engine free, it might be less expensive to purchase a complete motor..THE biggie is ALL the electrical connections and the transmission connections/motor mounts/exhaust system..etc..etc.... Research this as much as you can.
Check out the engines here..look through the list, you should be able to find one that fits your car without going through the "hope" that everything "might" work with a 4 year different engine.

BA wire colours for senser under throttle body beside vacuum mine was non toubo but I brought it with turbo motor being told to switch wires over

You should have done more research. Since you had a none turbo, most likely the ECM will not let you have optimal fuel mileage. Or may just die going down the road. Who ever told you this? have them come over and hook it up. Most newer cars, you have to swap engine for engine. If it's turbo, you have to get one, if not, you can't have one. Not like older cars where you can add a turbo or super charger then be on your way. Computers have to reprogrammed to accept either.

Can i get a bigger engine put in my car

Yes you can. The new engine must be emission compliant with your states regulations. Bear in mind that if a different engine is installed there might be additional costs involved other than the cost of the engine and basic installation. If you plan on doing it yourself do some research into engine swaps. You might have to reposition engine mounts. You need to make sure the new engine mounts properly with yout transmission. If you plan on paying to have it done the shop you take it to will know all this. If you are looking for more power it might be cheaper to have your engine modified. You wont have to buy another engine.

Will a 1997 3.3 Nissan Pathfinder engine be good to swap out a 2004 3.5 Nissan Pathfinder engine ??

being that you have a complete donor car the swap would be easy enough, one thing to keep in mind is the fuel management system and ECM will be different between the two. you may want to research the swap before you dive into it. it most likely will be cheaper to find a low millage motor at a wrecking yard that the same displacement and generation.

Replacing an alternater in 2000 oldsmobile intrigue...where is it???

On the 2001, it is located on the right side of the engine, below the belt driven items. There are three bolts holding it in place, including a very long one that is attached through the bottom belt pulley. You will need to remove the radiator in order to get the alternator out. There is no way around it besides lifting the engine. It is possible to remove the alternator, but there is not enough room to maneuver the thing out of the engine unless you remove the radiator. Unless you are or know a handy mechanic in your family, you will need to pay to have this done. It takes about an hour and a half to do.

91 Toyota Previa AWD - Swap original engine for Previa Supercharged engine

I do a lot of work on Toyota Previa before; including rebuilt engine, swapping engine and transmission and lot of things in between, but never swap a normal aspirated engine to a supercharged engine or diesel. Since i have some experience in Previa, I would like to share my opinion with you regarding your plan to swapping the normal aspirated Previa engine to a Supercharged engine. When you do a swapp like that, you will not only be dealing with just swapping engine, but some wiring, computer, throttle body, air cleaner assembly, extra frame and pulley on the accessory items, transmission as well as a right rear end to get the correct gear ratio to accomodate the new engine and transmission. I can go on even more, but let me tell you this, beside less headache, it would definitely cheaper if you were to find a Supercharged Previa and fix it up. However, if you are totally motivated to do this project, keep in mind, this engine swap will be a long term and time consuming project.l I wish you best of luck and have fun!
