Thats a good posibility when you hold the rpm's up you get more water flow through the heater core i would start with a new stat and go from there. Its also a good posiblity that the intake gasket is out or leaking

SOURCE: no heat

The 3400 is notorious of the head gaskets blowing. this may not be in your case. Check the level of the coolant. Their may be air in the heater core. bring it up to operating temp then check the level.

Hope it is just air in the system not the heads!

SOURCE: no heat 2006 pontiac torrent awd

your air damper or diverter may not be working.this is basically a mechanism that opens a flap by your heater core to control the amount of hot air that comes out. There is a rod that this flapper pivots on and if this rod is broken or the motor that operates it is not working you will either have heat all the time or no heat at all depending on which position it broke at.I know because my torrent has the same problem. To fix my problem they have to remove the dashboard to access the heater core which amounts to major $$$. I hope your problem is an easier fix. good luck

Recommend replacing the fan, as it should not be drawing that much current. Also make sure there is nothing blocking the airflow through the radiator. Do you have any leaks? I have a few tips here that may be worth reading: http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5929960-s_thermostat

Takes a long time to make heat. Has a new 195 thermostat.Temp gage never goes above 130 however my no touch laser temp gage shows 171 on top hose when warmed up

Hello! I believe you have an air bubble blocking the thermostat...Since you just changed it, the cooling system needs to be blead of trapped air...Start the engine with the radiator cap off, heat on high and let the engine run until all air has escaped...Slowly add 50/50 until all air is expelled and radiator is topped off...Replace the cap with a new one...Send a comment...Guru...saailer

The heat gage stays at cold but I am still getting some heat, not great heat , but still some, i even lft the car run for 15 min. why is my gage still reading cold?

Usually the symptom you posted means that the thermostat is stuck in the open position or has been removed.
Not only will that give you a no or low heat condition but also will really put a hurt on fuel mileage.
The engine management system thinks the engine is always cold and continues to send an overly rich signal to the fuel system instead of the normal warm engine signal it should have.

replace the thermostat with one rated at 195 degrees (f) and it should be fine.

Temperture Gage

First of all, it doesn't sound like your thermostat is working correctly to keep good hot/warm air coming , so I would change that, or have it changed for better heating inside. If you lift the hood & look in front of your radiator, On the engine side, you'll see a fan attached to, or in front of the radiator. It won't come on until the coolant temperature gauge gets up to proper operating temperature. Without getting in to too much detail, have your thermostat changed, and my guess is everything else will start working as it should, and whoever does the work, should know enough to check the fan operation when they do the thermostat.
