XK jeep. USA (answers)
bad key line (above answer is dead wrong 2 ways, yes solenoids are sold, so 2 time dead wrong. as the rebuild shop how they buy parts...same as me... not at autozoned.)
lesson never listen to a Hyundai guy, LOL

OP
next time start i neutral , i bet that works.!

park and neutral both work ! (oper guide words)
but park contacts burn up first.
so use N
you hot wired the starter solenoid small wire. (i know)
and it proved the battery ,cables and starter all work PERFECTLY
leaving what, the KEY line. (btw NICE WORK THAT , first ever here)

the wiring is simple need a schematic?, and a volt meter finds this
in what, 5min work?

there may be a starter relay bad. too.
the path is simple, no alarms.etc.
key switch,>> start>>relay>>>PNRDL (or TRS) switch>>> solenoid.
this path is broken,
that is the typical path for 08 jeeps. (i own one a JK)
sadly i dont have a commander FSm book,
but do all others.
, im sure im too late. to help.
do post back the cause,
my wild guess is bad TRS switch.

You need to replace the starter assembly, because you can't get the solenoid separately. Good luck

If he's starting it in park and getting a clicking sound, then more than likely hes getting power to the solenoid. Also yes you can buy a solenoid, but not easy to find. So the best and correct way to check would be to take a multimeter and check for power at starter when cranking/turning key. Should have over 12 volts, which by the way you are describin the problem I think you will. Never trust a guy who wants to bad mouth people who are trying to help people. Also worked for Chrysler for 6 years. Good luck

My 2010 Jeep Commander clicks one time. Changed starter, battery fully charged, cables clean/tight, relays click in the fuse box. Solenoid on the starter clicks but wont start. What else could it be?

Find the starter relay in the under hood fuse block. Make sure the vehicle is in park then remove the starter relay and locate cavity #30 and #87 use a short wire to touch these terminals together for a second if the vehicle starts replace the relay.

Where is the neutral safety switch located on my 2008 Jeep wrangler?

Sounds like you're starting at the expensive end and working backwards! First, check your battery, make sure it has a good charge. Second step is the starter solenoid. Some designs have external solenoids, some are internal. Third is the starter itself. Once you are sure all that stuff is good, THEN it's time to start looking for the neutral safety switch.

The check engine light is meaningless when the engine is not running.

Car won't Crank/start

With a voltage meter see how many volts are at the starter terminal. If not 12+ volts you have a bad connection. Check connection at the starter solenoid. Does it have 12+volts? Short the solenoid. Does it put voltage to the starter?

When i try to start my 2006 Jeep Commander all I hear is a clicking noise.

May be the starter solenoid, or a weak battery. Especially in cold weather, a weak battery will not have enough amps to kick in the solenoid on the starter, but may start after a few tries. Also may be as simple as a loose or corroded battery connection. Get the battery checked first, as this will not get better, only worse with time. If the battery and connections check out, then have the starter solenoid checked.

06 commander that has full power(all dash lights are on)but just clicks one time when trying to start

Dash lights draw so little that you could nearly run them with a couple of good flashlight batteries...Your starter draws more amps than anything else in the car. Check your battery connections and clean them. check actual battery voltage to make sure you have at min 12v. After making sure you have good power check power at the starter main terminal, starter relay and small wire on the starter (should have 12v when key turned to "start". If you still have a problem after testing post back.

Intermittent Starting Problem

My 2007 Commander never stalled while running, but every couple weeks would fail to start. Turn the key and nothing would happen. After a couple hours or overnight it would always start again with no errors recorded. First time they replaced the shift box (auto) thinking the system was not showing in park. Second time they did nothing. Third time they replaced the keys and fob module thinking it wasn't being recognized. Fourth time it finally wouldn't start at the dealer either and they replaced the starter. So far so good and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Dave
