2000 expedition programmed transponder programmed now key won't work

They can fail for all sorts of reasons...

My BEST SUGGESTION is to get on eBay and find your FOB.

The electronics are all you care about (if your case is okay) you are only needing to match the numbers on YOUR EXISTING remote.

If you have BOTH keys (Transponder: OEM) adding a
REPLACEMENT FOB is as easy as following simple
ignition key instructions...

I SINCERELY BELIEVE they are in your owners manual.

Also consider another FOB ... All FOBs should be present
when adding new units...

If you DO NOT have a THIRD transponder key: there is no CHEAPER way to prepare for a LOST or defective key
than adding a THIRD KEY (I highly recommend).

Your friendly dealer turns into a real ugly PROBLEM
(and love to charge HUNDREDS FOR PARTS & HUNDREDS
more for labor (towing not included ... if you lose one or both)).

Yes... eBay! No kidding.

My 2000 Navigator & 2004 Nav were seriously easy!!
The Key blank was about $25 and the two sided cut was $6...

Nice savings until the OAKLAND, Ca. Key shop decided to screwup the cut (both keys).

No... even LINCOLN windows are harder to break
(sorry... your LINCOLN is pretty secure).

Worse... the best price I've paid to get a double sided
PATS (passive anti-theft system) key cut = $6.

Bring your own key... But this was all about the price of PREVENTING your current situation... (oops).

If your ONLY key is truly "inside"...
Your goose is pretty much cooked... The cost of
the LOCKSMITH is pretty trivial compared to your
alternatives... Dealers will zing you MUCH BETTER
than your "expensive locksmith"...

But what ever you do... (my recommendation)... Since
you prefer not to be prepared... (no door code or FOB)
Don't pass on the opportunity to have that same SMITHY
at least tell you about your door code POSSIBILITIES
or at least program a remote FOB for you ...

A RESPONSIBLE "expensive locksmith" will
explain the WISDOM of NEVER having less than 2 (TWO) transponder keys. (by reading your owners manual you can program the FOBs yourself (FREE).

How do you manage the "no" keyless entry...?
I remain pretty sure the number pad... & KEY FOB
(wireless transmitter) were standard equipment...

2 SPARE keys minimum... ALWAYS.

yes,When the anti theft system was created,the dealers forgot to tell the new car buyers about how much the fob matters to the vehicle,without it,owners are stuck,your anti theft device is activated,you need to lock and unlock your doors a couple times with the key fob,not the key,and then you need to put the key in the ignition and start it,if you dont have your key fob,call your car dealer to get a new one,they are programmed for each car only,you cannot bypass it.if you lost your fob or never had it,whatever,you need to have the exact fob that came with that car from the factory,the key and fob have a chip in them that only go to that certain car,if you do not have it,then you need to buy a new one from the dealer or ebay and then you need to contact your dealer about programming the fob to your car,you might not have to have it towed if they have the documents from the car,the only other way is to get a junk car,with the steering column,key,fob and all computer boxes and door locks and switch them,(i just did that with a 98 dodge dakota,and it works.)

You can get empty key cases on ebay, open the old key case and remove the transponder with the buttons on it and transfer it to the new key case, no programming necessary because you are using the same transponder, al that's left then is to have the key cut to fit the ignition switch.

get two new fob e-bay is cheap or dealer cycle key from off to run NOT CRANK JUST TILL LIGHT COME ON . do that 8 times you door lock will lock then unlock this is key fob reprograming mode press unlock on fob door lock will cycle up and down then press unlock on other fob door lock will cycle again now start truck and shut off. test each fob.

when you reprogram the new fobs the other ones will not work

did some quick research for you and found this easy and very clear step by step instructions on how to program your transponder car key to your vehicle.. this works for the following models though :

Accord 2003 to 2006

Civic 1999 to 2006

Element 2003 to 2006

Odyssey 1999 to 2006

Prelude1999 to 2001

Accord SE 1997

CR-V 1998 to 2006

Insight 2000 to 2006

Pilot 2002 to 2006

now here are the steps:

1. Turn the ignition on
2. Press Lock/Unlock within 4 seconds
3. Turn ignition off and hen back on within 8 seconds
4. Repeat steps 2-3 two times
5. Press Lock/Unlock again within 4 seconds. The system should now lock and unlock the vehicle to indicate it is in programming mode.
6. In the next 10 seconds: press Lock/Unlock button allowing the doors to lock/unlock once; then press lock/unlock button of each remaining key, allowing the doors to lock/unlock once.
7. Switch ignition off and then remove the key

Civic 1996-1998

1. Turn ignition on
2. Press and hold the valet button which is situated on the radio within 5 seconds.
3. System should now lock and unlock the vehicle indicating it is in the programming mode
4. Within 5 seconds turn ignition OFF and press Lock/unlock on the remote fob to be programmed
5. Within the next 10 seconds, press Lock or Unlock of any remaining keys, allowing the doors o lock or unlock once.
6. Release valet key
7. Switch ignition off and then remove the key

Radio remotes 2 and 3 button types

1. Switch ignition on and repeat for 3 times.
2. Press he lock button, switch the ignition off and back on and then press lock button again.
3. System should now lock or unlock
4. Press the lock button of all remotes to be coded. The car should acknowledge this by locking/unlocking each time
5. Switch ignition off to exit the programming mode.

each vehicle is different put the key in the ign. turn key on press door lock/unlock at the same timehold button for 10 sec see if any lights on the dash inst. panel blink if they do that means that the key fob was programmed to your vehicle i recommend a new key fob this will give you definative instructions on how to reprogram your fob

It should work even after taken the battery out., but here is the process.
1. place key in ing.
2.turn from position 2(lock) to pos 3(off), cycle pos 3 to pos 4, 8 times within 10 secs. your 8th turn ending in pos 4. Doors should lock/unlock confirming the program mode is ready.
3. within 20 secs, program your fob by pressing any button on the fob. the doors will lock/unlock confirm it is programmed. If more than 20 sec pass before pressing the fob button, the step will have to be redone.

Theres only 1 way to tell if it will work - try it :)

Here is the procedure to marry a new remote to your truck.

1. Close all doors and then open drivers door and press the UNLOCK
button on drivers door panel while door is open and insert key in ignition.
2. Turn ignition from OFF to RUN (not start) 8 times within 10 seconds, with the
8th time ending in RUN. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming
mode.
3. Within 20 seconds press any button on first keyless remote.
Door locks will cycle to confirm programming.
4. Within 20 seconds, press any button on second keyless remote.
Door locks will cycle again to confirm programming.
5. Turn ignition to OFF.
Locks will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.


Both the Escape and LT program the same - the transponder should have the same resistance.

Seperate key fobs only can be programmed in the following way.

Turn ignition on/off 8 x times (allow all functions to stabilise) after the 9th on - press a button on both remote fobs. then turn ign. off. use good remote to lock and then try new remote to unlock/lock. sometimes it works first time - sometimes you have to repeat actions. good luck.
