Disconnect the battery first. then disconnect the wires going to the starter if you can reach them sometimes its easier to remove the 2 or 3 bolts holding the starter to the block or trany and then remove the wires. reverse the steps to put back together

A ticking sound on a 06 ford f150 super crew 5.4L

Ticking sound could be coming from a Coil-on-Plug, or a pcv valve, or (hope it's not) a valve lifter which could be sticking. Sticking lifter noise often disappears when rpm's change, or the noise comes & goes. try changing the motor oil & filter right after adding an Engine-Flush Treatment to the motor oil, running the engine for 10 minutes at idle with treatment added to the oil, then draining the oil & changing filter while oil is still very hot. That last part is very important, so be careful not to burn your hands - be careful. -- The sticking lifter is a likely cause if motor oil has not been changed at frequent intervals in the past (every 3-4K miles) -- dirty oil causes sticking lifters.

Need to know where the starter is located on a 98 ford f150

Assuming that the truck is a V8 or V6 the starter is located on the Passenger side of the Engine attached to the Engine Block. It is tucked into a difficult space to get at but if you have ever seen a Starter you can easily locate it. Look for a Heavy Battery Cable typically Red and a Red Wire to energize the Solenoid.

Ford f150 1988 4.9 cranks but doesnt start

If you are getting fuel and spark, than it probably is either a bad ground, or the TPS sensor itself.

2006 Ford F-150 Starting Problem

The ford dealership has my truck now, they said it was the injectors leaking and not holding gas in the fuel rail for start up, and that would also fix the sputtering problem i have. I will know for sure no later than wensday 2/4/09 if that fixes the problem. I will post the results when i get my truck back
