Firing order was wrong in my 318 Dakota I out the wires on according to Chilton book and now it runs worse and I dont remember what the original order was.

Originally I was having problems starting and running. I changed the plugs and it didn't help. I checked my Chilton book and the firing order was different on the truck compared to the book. so I switched the order to the way the book shows it and now I have to force it to start and it wont stay running by itself.

Truck is not firing on 3 cylinders yet it runs.. Runs really rough, back fires, under powered.. Plugs are Wet, Firing order is correct. New Spark plug cables. Don't know that is wrong! Please Help

Check for spark at the plug ( may have coil problem).
If spark is good then do a compression check. Pressure shouldn't be less than 75% of known good cylinders.

Firing diagram for 1990 caddy sedan deville front wheel 4.5?

To avoid confusion, remove and tag the spark plug wires one at a time, for replacement.
If a distributor is not keyed for installation with only one orientation, it could have been removed previously and rewired. The resultant wiring would hold the correct firing order, but could change the relative placement of the plug towers in relation to the engine. For this reason it is imperative that you label all wires before disconnecting any of them. Also, before removal, compare the current wiring with the accompanying illustrations. If the current wiring does not match, make notes in your book to reflect how your engine is wired.
