Hi Shelley, you mean the engine turns over but won't start ? It's missing one of three things Spark , Fuel or compression ! The last time it ran , did it run ok or not good ? No blue smoke coming out the tail pipe or smoke coming from under the hood ? Were there any lights lit on the dash , check engine , oil light...etc.. How low was the oil ? If the oil had been very low an you where driving it you could have fried the engine ! Me ,if this car came to my shop I'd pull a plug wire an see if it had spark an if it did I put a fuel presser gauge on an check for fuel ! If it had fuel I'd check compression ! Most usually if low oil were the problem the engine would seas up an would not turn at all. No Start Diagnostic Basics EricTheCarGuy You can watch this to see what is involved in finding out the problem !

Clicks but won t turn over

Most likely a bad or low battery or bad connection or bad solenoid or starter or combination of any of them. Those lights will mostly stay on till the engine cranks before going off.

Define - It attempts to turn over but won't catch and run ???? When you turn the key to start does the starter engage an spin the engine ? This would be a crank no start condition . If the starter doesn't engage an spin the engine this would be a no crank no start condition . Sorry to ask but i have only been an auto tech for thirty years an have heard a lot of different discriptions for these simple actions . crank no start or no crank no start . Very different diagnostic procedures . So when you turn the key to start , does the starter engage an spin the engine ,but won't start an run ?

I was driving and car stopped I was low on oil and had been running the car on low fuel a lot car won't start I got codes p0340 p0113 p0123 I replaced starter and p0340 what could be the problem?

PO340 is the camshaft sensor, circuit malfunction

PO113 is intake air circuit--high input

PO123 is TPS sensor circuit A high input

Running your car low on oil is never good, how low was it---did it start knocking or did it overheat?
Running on low fuel is never good either, did you run out of gas and burn the fuel pump up?
Why did you replace the starter? Will the engine turn over and try to start? If your engine will crank over, check for spark at the plugs and check to see if you have fuel pressure at the fuel rail...This would be the best place to start troubleshooting.

My 99 chevy malibu takes a while to start. it sounds like its trying to catch but it takes a couple of tries. someone told me it was the starter. does that sound right?is so where would it be located?

define trying to catch. is the engune turning over but sounding like it may start then finally does? or does the starter spin but the engine is not turning unless you turn the key to start a few times if it is the latter it could very well be the starter. check to see if you have an oil leak onto the starter. if it very greasey then you will need to adress the oil leak too. the starter is located on the lower right side of the engine. (passanger side.)
